Hello Pojo Fans,

Blazing Cartesia The Virtuous finishes up the week and brings us to an actual Albaz-focused card (though she is techable in almost any deck that Fusion Summons).

Same everything as Ecclesia, however now she can be Special Summoned if Albaz is in the grave or on the field. That Special Summon ability makes her great for Branded themes or any deck that runs Albaz for his Super-Poly effect. Cartesia is a monster Fusion Spell for Level 8 or higher Fusion Monsters. She herself can be used to summon Grand Guignol with another LIGHT or DARK monster, either of the Albion Fusion Monsters, Shddoll Construct, Despian Proskenion, Despian Quaeritis, Invoked Mechaba, Masquerade the Blazing Dragon, or even The Dark Magicians. There are so many choices for a big Fusion Monster that requires a LIGHT or Spellcaster monster as material. Aside from that, she can simply be your Fusion Spell for other Fusion Materials you’ve got on the field/in your hand.

If a Fusion Monster gets sent to the grave in any fashion, Cartesia will bounce herself back to the hand. If you keep a copy of Albaz in the grave you will always have a way to Special Summon Cartesia and use her immediately to make a Fusion Summon happen. Her effect is like a deck version of Albion the Branded Dragon’s grave effect (fitting since Cartesia can be used to summon him).

Cartesia is a Fusion-style players dream card. A monster that can Fusion Summon without cost as long as the Fusion Summon is Level 8 or higher (no complaints here). Many decks Fusion Summon with the abundance of good Fusion Support and with her ability to Special Summon if you’ve got Albaz in the grave or on the field, and an ability to get back to your hand, Cartesia should always be in the discussion for Fusion tech cards.

The week ends off with a much more evil version of Ecclesia that we’ve seen in the past, as we now got Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous.

Cartesia is a Level 4 LIGHT Spellcaster Tuner with 1500 ATK and DEF. Stats are alright, LIGHT and Spellcaster go well together, though this does look more DARK than anything. Being a Tuner is weird here, but Despia will get a Synchro later on, so the Fusion archetype having a Tuner now is fine. First effect can trigger if you control Fallen of Albaz, or have one in the graveyard, letting you Special Summon this from the hand. Can never complain about a Special Summon effect on a card, unless it is something ridiculous. Second effect is a Quick Effect in the Main Phase, letting you Fusion Summon a Level 8 or higher Fusion by using monsters from your hand or field as material. Note that she herself doesn’t have to be a material, but I imagine a lot of cases where you’ll use her still. Another way to Fusion Summon for something like Branded Despia is very good to get to your main monsters. Cartesia also has her own Fusion that she’s specifically a material for, but we’ll cover that at a later date. Final effect triggers during the End Phase of a turn a Fusion Monster(s) was sent to your graveyard, letting you add this card from the graveyard back to your hand. It’s a recovery effect that’s pretty solid. Being during the End Phase here specifically keeps things balanced at least. Cartesia overall is a pretty solid monster for a Branded Despia Deck. I will mention first at least that you shouldn’t summon Guardian Chimera off this, otherwise you get no effects from it since he needs a Spell for those to trigger. Other than that, it helps Branded Despia summon most of their Fusions, and the new ones coming out (especially the one that needs her as material, since that card is overall pretty good itself). Cartesia 100% has a home in Branded Despia, and maybe other Fusion Decks that come out as well.

What better way to wrap up our coverage of Darkwing Blast than Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous? Yet another evolution of Ecclesia, Cartesia is a level 4 LIGHT Spellcaster Tuner monster (contrary to its appearance). Combined with its average stat spread of 1500 attack and defense, Cartesia is completely identical to Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous in terms of properties. As with Incredible Ecclesia, being a level 4 Spellcaster opens up synergy with Magistus cards, and for obvious reasons, it has a place in Branded decks as well. As it mentions Fallen of Albaz, you can search it with the myriad of cards that search monsters that mention Albaz, notably with Tri-Brigade Mercourier.

Cartesia can Special Summon itself from your hand if you control Fallen or Albaz or if it’s in your Graveyard, which isn’t too hard considering Branded Fusion exists. Cartesia’s second effect is a Quick effect, Fusion Summoning a level 8 or higher Fusion monster during the Main Phase using monsters from your hand or field as material. This essentially makes Cartesia a quick Polymerization on legs, and while there are definitely applications for summoning on the opponent’s turn (like in Dogmatika decks where you might have used Nadir Servant beforehand), usually it’ll be easier to just summon on your turn unless there’s a Fusion monster with a powerful trigger you have in mind. Guardian Chimera unfortunately won’t work, but an upcoming Fusion monster in Photon Hypernova will. Cartesia’s last effect is also a hard once per turn, recycling back to your hand from the Graveyard during the End Phase if a Fusion monster was sent to the Graveyard that turn. Since a lot of Branded combos involve Fusion climbing and dumping Fusion monsters straight to the Graveyard, expect to recycle Cartesia a lot. Overall, an excellent card for Branded that opens up new lines beyond Mirrorjade and Guardian Chimera plays. In the OCG, Branded had suffered heavy banlist hits, so it was never able to take full advantage of the new cards in Darkwing Blast and Photon Hypernova. With Tearlaments out of the way, Branded decks are heading into new territory; they’ve managed to become the second best deck in the format so far, so it’ll be interesting to see how they develop from here.

Art: 4.5/5 I see that Eccelsia has entered her goth phase.
