If you control a “Plunder Patroll” monster, except “Bluebeard, the Plunder Patroll Shipwright”: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. If this card is sent from the hand or Monster Zone to the GY: You can discard 1 card; draw 1 card. You can only use each effect of “Bluebeard, the Plunder Patroll Shipwright” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Bluebeard, the Plunder Patroll Shipwright starts off a Plunder Patroll week here on Pojo.

Main Deck monster that gets you a discard for a draw. Unless it gets banished, whenever Bluebeard hits the grave it will be getting you the option to discard to draw. The Special Summon ability grants you field presence and setup for your Xyz plays, not only for the archetype but for generic Rank 4 plays as well. Controlling a Plunder Patroll monster to do so won’t be hard, it is all you play in the archetype, though that means you won’t be using this outside the archetype unless you only plan on using it for the discard to draw effect. It having to be in the Monster Zone if going from the field to the grave restricts it from being in the spell/trap zone like many of the Plunder Patroll monsters can be. Synergy with the Patrollships in the archetype. What this boils down to is that Bluebeard is an instant Rank 4 if you have another Plunder Patroll on the field, then will get you a ditch to draw: it is another way you can get to cards in your deck.

The last week of ETCO reviews for the time being and we go back to the Plunder Patroll archetype with a new Main Deck option: Bluebeard, the Plunder Patroll Shipwright.

Bluebeard is a Level 4 WATER Fiend with 500 ATK and 1000 DEF. Low stats on Level 4, a good Type and a good Attribute for Salvage synergy in the archetype as well as being a Bahamut Shark option. The first effect lets you Special Summon this card from hand if you control a Plunder Patroll monster that isn’t Bluebeard, meaning you can get a free material to go for Blackbeard without using your Plunder Patrolls that trigger on the opponent’s turn to access your Extra Deck, or it can be a target for Blackbeard since it doesn’t have the effect on its own to access the Extra Deck. The other effect is if this card is sent from hand or field to the grave, you can discard a card to draw a card. Easy effect to trigger by using this as Fusion, Synchro, or Link material while also triggering off being discard fodder. It helps trigger other Plunders grave effects with the discard as well, something the archetype can appreciate. Each effect is a hard once per turn, which is fine with how powerful the Plunder Patroll effects can be. It’s another good piece in Plunder Patroll for a free body and Deck cycling if you need. Worth using, and that isn’t mostly due to the archetypes lack of Main Deck monsters at the moment either, though maybe this could get replaced if we ever got more.

After a while, we’ve decided to take another Plunder into Plunder Patroll, so things kick off with Bluebeard the Shipwright.  Level 4, Water/Fiend, 500/1000 which is just awful especially on Level 4.

But for an immediate upside, controlling a differently named Theme Monster here lets you Special Summon this card from your Hand   Plus, being sent from the Hand or Field nets you a Draw.

So while not being an attacker (or defender really) both these effects certainly help that out greatly.  You do have to discard to Draw for this second effect.  But that’s not bad, the Pirates like being in the Grave.
