Hello Pojo Fans,
Bonfire truly made the “Year of Fire” the Year of Fire.
A card that was ridiculous in price at the very start, Bonfire is your RoTA for Pyro monsters. A once per turn Normal Spell that got you access to any Level 4 or lower Pyro, this card was over $100 for the longest time. This was because the Snake-Eye archetype was all Pyro monsters, the Fire Kings are Pyro monsters, and because it was the “Year of Fire” Without Bonfire the deck can still work, but it becomes increasingly slow and relies more on the Snake-Eye side of the archetype with the Sinful Spoils Spells rather than searching out any Pyro Level 4 or lower that you want. Fire Kings alongside Fire King Island and their ability to destroy themselves and gain advantage for the player, combined with Snake-Eye Spells turning other monsters into Continuous Spell cards and the ease of getting out Flamberge Dragon as a 3000ATK beater, Bonfire was needed for the archetype to run at full power and you needed a set. All Pyro decks benefit from this card, unless they somehow don’t run Level 4 and lower Pyro monsters.
Thankfully there is a reprint now and the craze has dropped because of a new toolbox that entered the game this year and essentially snuffed out the “Year of Fire”. Bonfire will always be a legitimate card like RoTA because its utility doesn’t wane over time. It survived the ban list and unless the archetype/decks that play it kick into overdrive once more, you are likely safe to play a set from now on.
P.S.: Solar Flare Dragon FINALLY got a great search card!

With all the FIRE support from the end of last year and beginning of this year being as strong as it was, some of the cards to support that were going to make the list, so at #9 this year, from Maze of Millennia, we have Bonfire.
Bonfire is a Normal Spell that lets you add any Level 4 or lower Pyro monster from your Deck to your hand. Reinforcement of the Army, but for the Pyro-type instead. Snake-Eye was likely the most common user of this for searching for your Snake-Eye Ash or Snake-Eye Poplar to get your combos going, though that is no longer as popular now that Original Sinful Spoils is banned in the TCG considering you could just run 3 of this and a Poplar in any Deck using a Level 1 FIRE monster that helps their plays. Volcanic was a niche option, but it gets you to some of the better cards like Volcanic Rocket, Trooper, Scattershot, Shell, and Rimshot. Now, you’re likely seeing this in Ryzeal Decks to search for Ice Ryzeal or Ext Ryzeal so that Deck can begin spamming their Rank 4s. It’s limited in the OCG, but remains at 3 in the TCG likely to help Ryzeal as we wait for Seventh Tachyon. It’s a staple for Pyro strategies, play the 3 copies you’re currently allowed to over here.

Time flies! Clocking in at number 9 is the infamous Bonfire, which made waves in the Yugioh community as a $100 card thanks to its role in Snake-Eye decks. As before, it’s a Normal Spell with a single, simple hard once per turn effect, searching any level 4 or lower Pyro monster. Snake-Eye Ash, Centur-Ion Trudea, T.G. Rocket Salamander, R-Genex Magma, and more are much more accessible with this card around. Since then, we’ve gotten yet another major deck that appreciates Bonfire– Ryzeal uses it to search Ext Ryzeal and Ice Ryzeal, both Pyro monsters that kick off your Ryzeal combos. Ryzeal proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for Bonfire in the OCG, as a recent list put it to Limited (it was already Semi-limited!). Fortunately, Bonfire is still free in the TCG and has been reprinted, so you can now get your hands on one for the low price of 1 US dollar. Enjoy it while you can before it becomes a scapegoat hit for Ryzeal.
+Searches playmakers for a variety of decks, including a top tier deck
-Pyro is still a relatively small pool
Advanced: 4/5
Art: 2.75/5 There’s a meme edit with a dollar being burnt up by the flame, which is an apt representation of what happens to people who buy Snake-Eyes Fire King.
