David Fanany Player since 1995 Didn’t the Sultai colors have strong enough graveyard interactions already? Brokkos’, I guess, lacks the trickery of something like Muldrotha, but even if you just view him as a 6/6 trampler who keeps coming back as long as you have a non-Human creature, that’s decent. He’s also a good option to mutate under other creatures with mutate, as it’ll still give you the “whenever . . .” trigger and likely make it stronger to boot. If he’s your commander, you can also let him go to the graveyard and circumvent the commander tax entirely. Constructed: 3/5 |

Five mana for a 6/6 with trample is pretty decent, but what makes Brokkos threatening is mutate and the ability to mutate it out of a graveyard; so long as you have a non-Human body and five mana, Brokkos can come back. That consistent sort of recursion helps make it impressively obnoxious with the right set-up, as he lives up to his name as the apex of forever if you play it right. He’s definitely not the flashiest of the Apex cycle, but there’s something to be said about consistency, and he’s nothing if not consistent. Constructed: 3.75 (being able to come in with a lot of abilities on turn 5 can be a real nightmare, so to speak, but he’s still solid without that) |
