Hello Pojo Fans,

Bystial Druiswurm clocks in at our #9 spot, and was one that I’d chosen, however it wasn’t higher than another Bystial monster on our countdown.

Druiswurm is a strong Level 6 Dragon that can leap out of your hand during either turn with a Quick Effect to Special Summon itself via banishing a LIGHT or DARK in either graveyard. Given, the Quick Effect only happens if your opponent controls a monster, this is still a powerful effect for a 2500ATK monster to have, and won’t be hard to achieve with LIGHT and DARK being the most represented Attributes in the game. Once on field, Druiswurm is a solid beater that can banish an opponent’s monster when Druiswurm is sent to the grave from the field. The monster being banished has to have been Special Summoned (most monsters in the game are). This, like its Special Summon condition is easily achieved and a good 1-for-1 for leaving the field in any fashion.

Druiswurm is easily Special Summoned, can be a great one-tribute Normal Summon, can even things out when it leaves the field, and, what makes it great: be a disruption if your opponent has a monster. Targeting a LIGHT or DARK in their grave that they are attempting to target and removing it to Special Summon Druiswurm is dejecting, and that is what the Bystials do.

We continue on with the top 10 as well look at one of the most recent cards of the year and a poplar card in today’s metagame, at number 9 from Darkwing Blast, we have Bystial Druiswurm.

Druiswurm is a Level 6 DARK Dragon with 2500 ATK and 2000 DEF. Overall great stats overall on Level 6, plus the amazing combination of DARK and Dragon. So first effect lets you Special Summon this from the hand by banishing a LIGHT or DARK from either graveyard, with this becoming a Quick Effect if your opponent controls any monster. A really strong ability to disrupt the opponent’s graveyard or to simply get a body on board. It’s best in a LIGHT/DARK centric metagame like the current one, but overall they’re both 2 types that are pretty popular, so these should always be relevant in some way. The second effect triggers upon being sent from the field to the graveyard, letting you target a Special Summoned monster the opponent controls and send it to the graveyard. Its decent removal that’s super easy to trigger just by using this as Link Material or if the opponent tries to remove it from the field. It’s a solid D.D. Crow against LIGHT and DARK strategies, or just an extender in yours, while also being removal if taken care of or used as material. Overall good card, but not even the best Bystial, as we will soon see.

#9 on our countdown goes to Bystial Duriswurm.  Dark/Dragon (always awesome) with 2500/2000 atk/def, which is very good as well.  Special Summon via the Hand by Targeted removal of a Light or Dark Monster from your Grave is beyond simple to do, especially for about any Dragon build.  The removal is essentially a Tribute, but easier to accomplish, and the Effect becomes Quick so long as your opponent controls a Monster.  Targeted destruction of an opponent’s Special Summoned Monster when Druiswurm leaves the Field is a great 1-for-1 too, and likely something big going down with it, as ideally that’s taking down an Extra Deck boss or some such.  Each Effect is appropriately Once per Turn.  2500 atk body, ease in bringing out, destruction on leaving the Field…just remember, it all Targets, and that can be important.  Honestly, this guy probably has Tech splash value outside of Dragons even.

Rating:  4/5

Art:  4.5/5  I mean, Dragon enough, but it kinda looks more like a Zombie or Beast thing to me.  Still enjoyable though.

Number 9 on our countdown is a sneak peek since we haven’t even covered its archetype yet– Bystial Druiswurm is a level 6 DARK Dragon monster from the Bystial archetype, which debuts in Darkwing Blast. Level 6 is always a unique level, opening up potential to make Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal. Of course, being a DARK Dragon doesn’t hurt either, perhaps the most supported type and attribute in the game. Druiswurm boasts a solid 2500 attack and 2000 defense for a level 6 monster, so it can put up a fight in a jam.

The claim to fame for Bystial monsters is their one shared effect– they can all Special Summon themselves from the hand by banishing a LIGHT or DARK monster from either Graveyard. Additionally, if your opponent controls a monster, it becomes a Quick effect, essentially making them hand traps. This effect alone is enough to justify Druiswurm’s spot in our top 10, as the current strongest deck in both regions, Tearlaments, hinges on DARK monsters in the Graveyard. Of course, this effect will work wonders on any LIGHT or DARK deck that utilizes the Graveyard for its combos, so if you have a particular hatred for Drytron, Evil Twin, Dragon Link, or, ironically, Bystial decks, these guys will do the job. Druiswurm’s other effect is unique to Druiswurm, letting you target an opponent’s Special Summoned monster and send it to the Graveyard if Druiswurm is sent from the field to the Graveyard. It’s nice for boardbreaking and possibly even disruption if you have a way to remove your own Druiswurm on your opponent’s turn. It’s one of the better Bystials (but not the best, hint hint) for generic use, so if you decide to run the Bystial package, expect at least one of this guy.
