What's up, you guys?! I hope everyone is enjoying the
start of their new year, and what better way to start
this new year than talking about the best card of 2013,
which is also debatably the best card in the entire game
and one of the few cards I never got a chance to review,
so I finally get the honor to do so!
Dragonic Overlord The End
Power: 11000
Grade 3
Clan: Kagero
Race: Flame Dragon
[CONT](VC/RC):If you have a non-«Kagero» vanguard or
rear-guard, this unit gets [Power]-2000.
[CONT](VC):If you have a card named "Dragonic Overlord"
in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+2000.
[AUTO] (VC):[Counter Blast (2) & Choose a card named "Dragonic
Overlord the End" from your hand, and discard it]
When this unit's attack hits, you may pay the cost. If
you do, [Stand] this unit.
...Like I said before, The End has factors from each
of the other 9 on my list with none of the weaknesses
from others:
The End is his own combo card (Bad End Dragger/PRISM
Vert)
The End is one of the best pressure cards in the game if
not THE best (Maelstrom/Descendent/Majesty)
Given his Persona Blast alone, The End can become a huge
powerhouse by himself (Gancelot)
He combos well with a LOT of different cards (Dauntless
Drive Dragon)
The fact that people buy CASES of Set 5 for The End says
a LOT (Gancelot again)
Depending on how you attack, The End can leave a
opponent's field in a wasteland (THE BLOOD)
Now I didn't mention Alfred, but that's where The
End's lack of weakness comes in: unlike Alfred or
Descendent, The End isn't restrained by Legions! As a
matter of fact, because he has Overlord in his name, he
already has his own support with Burning Horn Dragon
and, dare I say, Flame of Promise, Aermo! Also, the fact
that he's a Crossride with a unit that was probably on a
lot of people's Best of 2012 List, the original Dragonic
Overlord, The End can easily be at Crossride form as his
previous form isn't too shabby in itself! As a matter of
fact, The End is probably the most flexible card to put
in any Kagero deck in my opinion seeing how you can make
a pure Crossride build or Neverendo Break Ride (see my
Dauntless Drive Dragon review for details) or even
attempt a hybrid of the two!
Now we get to the actual effect: if The End hits
ANYTHING (not just Vanguard, but also rear-guards), then
you can Counterblast 2 and Persona Blast to Stand up The
End for another attack! This is one of the original
self-standing Vanguards if not THE original should you
not count Commander Laurel and it shows! Another
strength that this has over other Vanguard Standers is
the fact that The End is NOT a Limit Break meaning that
if you have the 2 face-up damage and a copy of The End
in hand at anytime, then you're free to use the effect
anytime you like. The fact that if you get a easy 3 card
benefit (4 cards from 2 Twin Drives - discarding a copy
of The End in your hand) at a cost of 2 Counterblast
makes this card a very simple card to use! I've seen
beginners use this card just as well as any higher level
Vanguard player because it's so easy to use! This effect
alone is the sole reason why people are willing to try
and prevent this monster of a card from hitting anything
at all so that their opponent doesn't get such a
significant card advantage just from one Persona Blast!
No Limit Break to wait on, no Legion to restrain
itself, no mercy on pressure, no stop on card advantage
and no lacking on potential combos. That's how The End
plays and that's how The End always has been and always
will be a threat to anyone regardless of who is using
it, and who is his next victim, and that's why he's
undeniably
the BEST card of 2013!
Rating: 5/5 (I'd rate it a LOT higher if I could.)
Art: 5/5
Next Time: I'm going to MAGfest to fry my brain with
video games and music!
