What's up, you guys?! It's Friday, and time for the
#8 card in the Top 10 Cards of 2013. Let's see what I
chose this time...
Blue Storm Dragon, Maelstrom
Power: 11000
Grade 3
Clan: Aqua Force
Race: Tear Dragon
[AUTO](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you
have four or more damage):When this unit attacks a
vanguard, if it is the fourth battle of that turn or
more, until end of that battle, this unit gets
[Power]+5000 and "[AUTO](VC):[Counter Blast (1)] When
this unit's attack hits, you may pay the cost. If you
do, draw a card, choose one opponent's rear-guards, and
retire it.".
[CONT](VC/RC):If you have a non-«Aqua Force» vanguard or
rear-guard, this unit gets [Power]-2000.
...now I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this
one, but hear me out on this one. This one was another
tough decision seeing how I was deciding between this
and my other honorable mentions, Trans-core Dragon or
the Crossride, Glory Maelstrom, but I had to choose
regular Maelstrom for one simple reason: out of all of
the aces that Aqua Force has, nothing adds more CONSTANT
pressure than Maelstrom. Trans-core adds the extra
Critical in exchange of a discard, but that's only for a
turn unless you keep riding into more Trans-cores.
Glory Maelstrom is able to pressure by forcing only
Grade 0's to guard, but that's only at Ultimate Break
and is still limited by your Counterblasts, and after
the first or second time, most players will be able to
expect the next time it happens, but with Maelstrom,
that Limit Break will happen each and every time without
any huge cost aside from making him the 4th or higher
attack, and with Aqua Force, that is VERY possible with
Diamantes, Basil, Benedict or any other units that
re-stand or switch vertical positions, and I never even
got a chance to the effect. Aside from the 5,000 power
boost, should Maelstrom hit, then at a cost of a
Counterblast, you get to draw a card AND retire an
opponent's rear-guard. That right there is a two card
profit as you are gaining one and your opponent is
losing one!
The fact that Maelstrom can...turn the tide...at a
single attack is incredible and noteworthy to put onto
my list.
Rating: 4.5/5
