What's up, you guys?! So Saikyo Cardfighter R decided that we
should take a look at some cards that I, personally,
have reviewed already in the past and has dubbed it
"Re-visitation Week"...not sure how I feel about this
seeing how I have to look at these again, but hey, it's
been a while since I looked at these, so let's see what
we have...
Covert Demonic Dragon, Magatsu Storm
Power: 10000
Grade 3
Clan: Murakumo
Race: Abyss Dragon
[ACT](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you
have four or more damage):[Counter Blast (2)] This unit
gets [Power]+3000 until end of turn, and search your
deck for up to two cards named "Covert Demonic Dragon,
Magatsu Storm", call them to separate (RC), shuffle your
deck, and at the end of that turn, put the units called
with this effect on the bottom of your deck in any
order.
[CONT](VC):If you have a card named "Stealth Dragon,
Magatsu Gale" in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+1000.
...I'm going to go on the record and say that I
freaking hate the Magatsu series on a personal level
because whenever I tried using it, I NEVER was able to
pull off the full Ride Chain and always drew my
Triggers...I guess Murakumo hates me back, so go figure.
Anyway, Magatsu Storm has a par 10,000 power, as do any
of the Gen 3 Ride Chains, and is at 11,000 should you
have Magatsu Gale in your Soul...basically if you can
hit the latter half of the Chain. His Limit Break is
what makes him interesting as it follows suit to the
Murakumo theme: Shadow Cloning. You can Counterblast 2
cards to give your Vanguard Magatsu Storm a 3,000 power
boost and call 2 other copies of Magatsu Storm for the
turn until they go to the bottom of the deck at the End
Phase. I see a lot of pros and cons with this as the
pros being that your Vanguard will be at 13,000-14,000
by himself and able to fight Crossrides along with the
fact that you get 2 pseudo-free 10,000 attackers for the
turn and makes it so that you aren't calling anything
from your hand to help attack with aside from boosters,
which can also support Shadow Cloning depending on said
unit like Million Rat or Oboro Cart. That and the fact
that the copies of Magatsu Storm go to the bottom of the
deck means that they aren't going to interfere with your
Drive/Damage Checks and actually help your probabilities
of getting Triggers on later turns as it makes 2 Grade
3's stay at the bottom of the deck.
With that said, there are drawbacks to Magatsu Storm;
the main one being that if you didn't hit the Ride Chain
that he's at 10,000 and VERY easily to bully around as
most decks are willing and able to hit that magical
20,000 attack column thus forcing out the extra shield
needed to guard. Another con is that the units called by
this effect are only there for one turn and will
actually attract more attention to your Vanguard as
there would be nothing else to attack against during the
opponent's turn. That and the Counterblast 2 can stack
up depending on what else Counterblasts in your deck and
if you are successful in hitting with White Mane should
you play it.
Overall, Magatsu Storm is a decent card, but just has
it's very awkward situations.

Next Time: The Cookie Monster might love this card a bit
too much...

Covert Demonic Dragon, Magatsu Storm
This card...all of this card. Do people not realize
that this card is riddled with problems?
Firstly, his Ride Chain. Generally, the odds of
pulling the entire thing off all the way generally falls
into the category of not worth it unless you've got no
better filler, but this card encounters another problem
the other chains of his type don't share: copy
management. You need 1 in the hand and 2 in the deck.
The third can be gotten out in some way, but unless you
want a seriously bad time, you can't afford to have 2 of
that card removed. And that's a bitch to pull off
considering in testing, cards don't like being told
where to go. This is especially dumb when you consider
the Ride Chain REMOVES COPIES FROM THE DECK. @r$E! And
you have to do this twice if you want to pull off the
chain with the most optimal outcome.
But that's enough bitching about the Ride Chain. If
we talk about Magatsu Storm himself...yeah, he's also
bad. CB2 to clone himself for 1 turn? Firstly, when you
use his skill, it's late in the game. If your attacker
slots are not filled by the time this happens, it means
you got uber screwed and couldn't call much all game.
It's only good as a de-screwer if the opponent Kagero'd
your field away or they just like attacking the front
row.
But that's not the worst part. The problem is also
that Magatsu Storm exists as an unilaterally better
card. Platinum Blond Fox Spirit, Tamano. She can clone
ANY attacker, not just herself (the problem with Storm
cloning himself is that the odds of pulling off the
chain are too low, so chances are his copies will float
in the deck and screw you by being damaged or drawn),
she can pay half the cost for half the ability, and she
doesn't have to wait to use her skill.
Storm? More like a shower of piss.
