What's up, Rogue Squad?! So as we progress though
more of the new dragons this week, let's take a look at
a card that'll officially put Yaksha into the common
box...which I have dubbed, "Das Tank"...not like Yaksha
was already collecting dust in Das Tank:
Cruel Dragon
Power: 11000
Grade 3
Clan: Kagero
Race: Flame Dragon
[AUTO](VC) Limit Break 4 (This ability is active if you
have four or more damage):[Counter Blast (1) & Soul
Blast (1)] When this unit attacks a vanguard, you may
pay the cost. If you do, choose one of your opponent's
grade 2 or less rear-guards, and retire it.
[ACT](Hand):[Reveal this card, choose your grade 2 or
greater «Kagerō» vanguard, and [Rest] it] During the
main phase of that turn, If your opponent's rear-guard
is put into the drop zone, ride this card as [Stand],
choose your vanguard, and that unit gets [Power]-3000
until end of turn.
[CONT](VC/RC): Lord (If you have a unit without a same
clan as this unit, this unit cannot attack)
...this is just an odd card that can actually work
well with yesterday's card, Nouvelle Vague, as Cruel
Dragon can basically skip a Grade as you can go from a
Grade 2 like Nehalem, call a Berserk Dragon or Kimnara
to retire something then Superior Riding into this and
getting an early turn into the very deadly Nouvelle
Vague. But that right there is Cruel Dragon's problem in
my eyes: more than likely, people are going to a use
this card for all of the wrong reasons, and that's as a
stepping stone to Vague, but as a card itself, I feel
that Cruel Dragon can be a bit of a threat if not
treated cautiously as each time you attack with a Limit
Break, then for a Counterblast and Soulblast, you can
basically pull a Berserk Dragon and retire any Grade 2
or less rear-guard. The only drawback to this is that
he's not made to hit strong, as in a game like Vanguard,
where power is a huge factor in the game, but the fact
that the power bonus is replaced to be a pretty big
nuisance actually is fitting to the Kagero clan. The
clan is made to disrupt the opponent's field by picking
it apart piece by piece, and Cruel Dragon fits the mold
perfectly, and surprisingly, this actually combos
extremely well with Dauntless Drive Dragon as you'll be
able to use the Limit Break twice and burn down more of
the opponent's field with the Limit Break.
Granted, my opinions will probably fall on deaf ears
as Kagero isn't my main clan (though I have dabbled with
the clan and have a purebred Seal Dragon deck to show
for it), but if you are a Kagero player and are only
looking at this as a quick Superior Ride, then you've
already lost my respect as a Kagero player because he
isn't made as a stepping stone; he's made as a volcano
to sweep away the opponent's field.
Rating: 3.5/5
Art: 4.5/5 (Not going to lie, this is the first time I
ever sat down and looked at his art...it's pretty
freaking awesome!)
Next Time: A very easy rating...

Cruel Dragon
I mentioned Cruel Dragon yesterday, this is it. Limit
Break-wise, when it attacks a Vanguard, Soulblast 1 and
Counterblast 1 to kill a Grade 2 or below. The normal
skill allows you to ride it on top of a Grade 2 or
greater at the cost of losing 3k for the turn. But you
can only do it by retiring an opponent's unit during the
Main Phase.
Limit Break's a bog standard CB1 for +1 for as long as
Late Game will reasonably last. Not too special, but the
capacity to force the opponent to commit more from the
hand when they don't want to is pretty neat.
But what you want Cruel for is the second ability. The
capacity to hit Grade 3 just like that AND sit on an 11k
body for the rest of the game for cheap is pretty
amazing. If you go first and can pull off the Superior
Ride, the opponent will only have a Grade 1 while you
have a Grade 3. That's totally bull considering early
Twin Drive and the many Critical Triggers at your
disposal, which certainly help the initial minus from
riding again.
I've also seen this guy used in two ways: either with
Prowling Dragon Striken to get the best of both units
without sacrificing the attack, or as a very cheap
shortcut to a turn 3 Nouvelle Vague. Sometimes even both
in the same deck, but I don't know how consistent this
gambit is to be worth pulling off. I suppose maxxing
stuff like Kimnara, Gatling Claw Dragon and what have
you is a good start.
All in all, Cruel is a pretty diverse little monster. It
needs to be combined with other things but said things
really give it some bite.
