Cultus Witch, Rias
The second ace in the Shadow Paladin Witch deck is Rias.
She legions with Dierdre, a unit that morphs a
rear-guard into a dead Grade 0 on-call. And as soon as
she Legions, you retire a Witch rear-guard to sap the
opponent's Vanguard of 5k for every Grade 0 they
control. That's actually really neat, given Danna and
Dierdre together should morph a good number of cards
(not including the opponent's own starter if they
haven't used it already), although keep in mind the
Legion skill does not count any Grade 0s played
afterwards, just what was in play upon Legion.
Her ACT skill is to Counterblast 2, check the top 5
cards of your opponent's deck, and morph a RG into a
Grade 0 from among thos 5. Sort of like Fianna-lite.
Obviously it's supposed to be paired with her Legion
skill to amount to what should be at worst the same
gambit as some other card like Original Savior, Zero. It
works out very similarly too; you -1 Break Riding, just
as you'd -1 from using Rias's Legion skill, and in
return the skill amounts to all your columns being able
to force a minimum of 5k more guard. However, Rias can
basically perform better in practice owing to a larger
column drop and the capacity to do a little more before
Late Game by morphing, as opposed to Zero who just sits
around until ride time.
Rias will be stuck being more vanilla than Fianna, but
as far as follow-ups to Fianna go, she isn't a bad
accompaniment.

Cultus Witch, Rias
Couldn't they have named her Culture Witch, Rias?
Anyway, Rias here is a type 1 Shadow Witch Legion.
The non-Legion skill allows you to CB2 to choose one of
your opponent's rear guards and then they look at the
top 5 cards of their deck and if there's a grade 0
there, it gets called in to replace the unit that you
selected.
So, it's got half of Femme's legion skill, and, like
Femme, it can be done more than once a turn. But,
what does the Legion skill do?
By retiring one of your witches, Rias can, for every
grade 0 your opponent has, reduce the power of your
opponent's vanguard by 5000 for each one.
So, two grade 0s and we're looking at Reverse Daiyusha
here. Ouch, that's pretty mean. But you get
3? Well, it should be noted that you can get to
negative numbers in Vanguard, so, a decrease of 15000
will make anything, including cross ride defenses, a
-2000 for the turn.
This is a decent back-up Legion to Fianna, and, don't
get me wrong, it's a great way to finish the opponent
off. As for standing on it's own? Not so
good. Thankfully, witches have plenty of ways to
make Rias here a genuinely good boss on her own.
Fianna might be better, but Rias stands pretty well on
her own too.
And, like Yggy yesterday, I won't give a Legion rating
until we cover the mate, since Deirdre has a pretty good
skill on her own.

Cultus Witch, Rias

Yay more Witches!!! Again my love of this sub clan is
its control of over your opponents deck and field. It
is something new and different that we really have not
seen Bushiroad do to much with their design of clan
mechanics. When I say field I don't mean by retiring or
locking units more so the control you have on replacing
them with other units that are very much needed for
winning, triggers. Rias is a decent unit and would be my
second choice ride if I did not have Fianna in hand but
she is my late game ride for her on legion effect. When
this card performs legion retire a unit with Witch in
its card name and for every grade 0 your opponent has on
their field their Vanguard loses -5k power for each
unit. This ability can be so good for late game as I
said and if they are even able to survive the attacks
they will have to drop so many cards that they would be
at a distant disadvantage going forward. So what you do
is play Fianna and legion the turn before and use her
skill to call two triggers to the field and then make
sure you have 4 units in the drop zone for your next
turn. Then you legion with Rias and retire a witch and
if you opponent did not correct their field your
opponent's Vanguard will automatically lose -10k and
that is not including if they have their starting
vanguard still on the field. So if you have a 11k
vanguard and you lose -10k their Vanguard will be
1k.......Very scary and again makes guarding very
tricky. My biggest complaint about this card is her 3rd
ability and that is counter blast two, choose one of
your opponent occupied rear guards and look at the top 5
of their deck and call a grade 0 from among them over
the occupied rear guard. Fianna does the same ability
but you get to do it for two units and look at the top
10 cards of your opponent's deck. I have actually seen
Rias's effect miss and that is a huge waste of counter
blast to have an effect miss. But what I do like about
the 3rd ability is that you do not have to be in legion
to use it, so you could potentially set up future plays
with her effect for when you can legion. |
