Ultimate Raizer Mega-flare
WARLYCAN36! YOU BASTARD! You pawn a bunch of dinosaurs
on us and then DON'T SODDING REVIEW THEM WITH US! WHAT
THE HELL, DUDE!? I KNOW THEY DON'T SATISFY YOUR PIRATE
BONER BUT YOU SHOULD STILL REVIEW THEM ON PRINCIPLE!
*Gasp* So yeah, ......
And so we get the main aces left of BT17 out of the way
before we move on to greener pastures. And kicking us
off is Ultimate Raizer Mega-flare. He legions with Dual
Flare, and for your troubles, he gains an extra critical
when he attacks and 4 units are rested (BTW, this
includes himself and his Legion mate as 2). The normal
skill is to stand a unit when his attack hits the
Vanguard and a Raizer is in the same column as it.
Mega-flare sounds largely unimpressive at first.
However, there was one particular card that was released
back in the Comic Styles Extra Booster that seemed
doomed to forever rot in the pile of commons that turned
Mega-flare into a hate-engine of absolute death. Cat
Butler.
When your Vanguard doesn't hit, he re-stands a Grade 2
or below Vanguard. So you choose your Grade 2 Legion
Mate. And it stands, standing the Grade 3 it's partnered
with in the process. Now, you have another Vanguard
attack for 20k at least.
This is an example of when Crit-gainers do something
right. The extra Crit is not just Mid Game pressure,
it's REPEATABLE Mid Game pressure. Eat 2 damage and
another RG attack or eat 2 Twin Drives and possibly 2
damage and THEN a RG attack. Cat Butler makes this
Morton's Fork in card form.
Mega-flare's made Raizers cool again. If you like a good
Nova Grappler build, get what you need, assemble your
spare change and build this.

Ultimate Raizer Megaflare
Well, our trek through set 17 continues with the Raizers
that surpassed Perfection to become Ultimate.
...Wait, is that a Digimon reference? Slick one,
Bushiroad, slick.
Anyway, Megaflare here legions with Dual-flare, who can
restand on the turn when your vanguard performs Legion
when your vanguard attacks. Hmm... neat.
Oh, hey, Megaflare's Legion is what happens when Ethics
Buster Extreme and Perfect Raizer have a robot baby
together.
Megaflare here is, I guess, a type-2 Legion. The
skill never really activates, it just kind of turns on.
Weird. Anyway, the non-legion skill is basically
Ethics Buster Extreme, every time that Megaflare hits
the vanguard, restand a unit. Combine with
Dual-Flare, that's pretty nice. So, what about
that Legion skill?
If 4 units you control are at rest, this unit gets +1
critical. Nice for putting some extra pressure on,
but, Vanguards that gain crits suck, right?
Well, this one isn't THAT bad, seeing as you only need 2
rear guards resting when this unit attacks to get the +1
critical when in Legion, seeing as both Mega and
Dual-Flare count themselves as rest when they attack,
so... Ouch.
Anyway, let's ignore that and go into why anyone was
interested in this deck in the first place. Cat
Butler. Remember back in my Brutus review where I
broke down how Legion works? Well, I mentioned Cat
Butler specifically because Cat Butler works with
Megaflare here (as well as tomorrow's card). See,
when in legion, you have a grade 2 Vanguard in play.
(Why Kamui never used Cat Butler in the show, I'll
never know.) So, if the attack gets blocked, you can
retire Cat Butler to restand Megaflare and attack with
another twin drive and possible another crit.
But, without Cat Butler, the Raizer deck really isn't
too scary, even if Megaflare's pretty good, the deck
isn't too over-overwhelmingly powerful. Still,
can't dismiss it straight out, if only Megaflare got
more powerful when attacking. Oh well.
