New Era Beast, Zeal
Oh hey, I just heard someone in Canada made finals with
this! And people decried that he scraped through on
luck. Well regardless he still did it, so suck it. So
what is the nature of this beast? Well, he Legions with
Galactic Beast Zeal, and for that, every time you take
damage, you CB1 to lower one enemy unit's power by 1k
for every unit under your control. Assuming a full
field, that's seven on the board, so that's a 7k drop in
power max. And when New Zeal's attack hits an enemy
Vanguard with 8k power, he Soulcharges 1 and unflips a
damage.
First skill is obviously meant to be paired with damage
inducers like Cosmic Mothership and Fighting Saucer so
that the drop in power can be used both offensively and
defensively. Of course the deck has to then be prepared
to put up with the bad columns they provide afterwards,
but as long as you intercept correctly it shouldn't be
difficult. Second skill's nice for generating fuel, but
really shouldn't be counted on since Late Game it won't
matter; the vanguard will almost always be blocked, and
early on it relies on you lowering power some other way.
Which is a problem since riding New Zeal on Devourer of
Planets Zeal will not trigger the power drop, and that
sucks since you haven't room to run Plazm over
Mothership, G2 Zeal and probably a 10k hitter (Saucer
needs a 10k buddy for 16k columns). So it's Darwin
riding this over original Zeal it is, which you don't
rely on ever I should think.
New Zeal is not bad, but he is about as fast as a normal
Legion deck. His on-hit's a nice bonus, but should be
treated as no more than that. Beware your heavy CB usage
in the deck too.

New Era Beast, Zeal
Well, I guess Zeal needed support, seeing as the Ride
chain was outdone by Reverse Daiyusha for power
decreasing on your opponent's Vanguard.
So, this is rather interesting, a defensive Legion.
The last time something defensive existed was...
...The Link Joker unit that locked opponent's cards on
their turn.
...Huh, that's not so good, so, how does this stack up?
If in Legion, when the Vanguard takes a hit, CB1 to
reduce one of your opponent's units by a maximum of 7000
for the turn?
...Oww! That basically forces the opponent's
Vanguard to be the first attack because any rear guards
can be made completely useless by this legion ability.
That's cool. Not quite as good as lock, but it can
mess with your opponent's mind. And if you hit
when the opponent's vanguard has 8000 or less power, you
SC1 to unflip a damage.
That's neat, Combine with Commander Laurel to make
Galactic Beast, Zeal completely free if you hit twice,
combine with the Limit Break enabler and make it go off
at two damage. Whee!
It's really good, thankfully having Legion power helps
it get over what Reverse Daiyusha can do to an
opponent's Vanguard.
Still, limited by the fact that it's not D-Robos or
Metalborgs. But, it is a cheap and affordable
deck, which is always nice.
Needs a Stride now, Bushi... Oh, right, that's
what Dark Omega is for, huh?
Rating: 4/5 (Zeal deck only)
Legion Rating: 4/5 (for having one of the few defensive
Vanguards that's actually good)
