Sky-slicing Rending General, Superior Mantis
...nah. Inferior Bad-tis, when ridden or called, Dark
Device Counterblasts 1 to paralyze a rear-guard in the
same column. When called and GB1 is active, Dark Device
paralyzes a rear-guard.
So if ridden, he only stuns one thing and then does fuck
nothing else. If you can't Stride, you are in for a bad
time, buddy. So he's only good for frustrating a
rear-guard and necessitates a G4 Darkface or Rosenburg
use if you don't fancy stunning just a booster, because
paralyzed units can still intercept. When called, he
just stuns something. So if both the skills are on-play
only, you're just going to wind up having a RG spot
being taken up by something that will only swing for
normal columns.
That's not to say that both of these skills are BAD, but
they are HELLA redundant. You should have several cards
already paralyzing enemies such as Darkface and any
other stunners are covered by cards such as Sweet
Cocktail, Punish Stag, etc. You don't need any more than
that.
Either you managed to get a hold of Cyclomatooth or
you're a pauper playing this. There is no reason to use
this with Darkface as far as fail-con G3s are
concerned.

[Sky-slicing Rending General,
Superior Mantis]
Problem with "Superior" Mantis is
that Dankface already has stellar backup Grade 3s:
Cyclomatooth, and to a lesser extent Machining Scorpion
mk II.
Cyclomatooth forces the opponent to
ride another Grade 3, which is why this is one of the
few Breakrides still worth running. Also, breakriding
affords you more soul for Dankface's GB2.
Machining Scorpion mk II allows you
to run 1 copy of Carapace Mutant Deity, Machining
Destroyer. Some of the Machining grade 1s and 2s that
offer you good utility (ex. Machining Mosquito,
Machining Armor Bettle) don't require a Machining
vanguard, so you can still run them alongside Dankface
and be able to use Scorpion's skills if you have to sit
on him because you haven't drawn Dankface yet. Legion is
convenient against extended battles, but not necessarily
mandatory in this day and age. I don't fully endorse the
Dankface/Legion route, but ill acknowledge it works.
I didn't want to turn this review
into two other mini-reviews, but compared to those two,
Superior Mantis's utility is lackluster. His on-call
effects are redundant, because Dankface and the rest of
his support are already doing a fine job of stunning
units. The breakride or Legion options just offer more
utility.
Run this guy if you really can't be
bothered to grab the breakride or the Legion. But I know
you can put in a little more effort than that. Those
mofos are cheap.
