[AUTO](VC):[Choose a face down card named "Blue Storm Helical Dragon, Disaster Maelstrom" from your G zone, and turn it face up] When this unit attacks, if you have a heart card with "Maelstrom" in its card name, you may pay the cost. If you do, search for up to one card from your deck with "Maelstrom" in its card name, reveal it, put it into your hand, shuffle your deck, and if you have a card with "Maelstrom" in its card name in your soul, choose up to three units in your front row, and they get [Power]+5000 until end of turn.

Blue Storm Helical Dragon, Disaster Maelstom
Does anyone get the feeling Blue Storm got shafted this
set because of the otherwise pretty okay Thavas stuff?
Sorry but it's true. Disaster Maelstrom, upon attacking
when you have a Maelstrom heart, adds another Maelstrom
from the deck to hand, and if you have a Maelstrom in
the soul, gives the front row 5k until end of turn.
Nope. Has no interaction with Glory Maelstrom at all and
is too conditional for what is effectively shit Lambros.
He confirms Stride fodder for next turn but that's
essentially it. I'm not skipping a Break Ride turn
(because BR skills don't carry over if you Stride) just
for 5k to the front row when I have better shit to do.
Even as a first Stride Commander Thavas gives you more.
if you want to milk Despina, you'd combine it with
Wailing Thavas instead. Harsh but true. This is fucking
garbage. Its only saving grace is that this is better
than the LAST Maelstrom G-Unit.

Another example of Oldguard support which is boring. But
at least Disaster Maelstrom is good setup for the
breakride turn. Let's talk about the 5k buffs to the
front row though.
The only efficient way of getting a Maelstrom in the
soul is by Breakriding, so the effect presumes you've
already done that. And if you already brokerode, chances
are you have a face-up G-Unit, either from striding
previously or G-Guarding. ("Brokerode" sounds weird even
in my head.) And if you have something in the G-Zone
already, your second stride should be Wailing Thavas or
Lambros.
Budget players get a free pass for not having Wailing
Thavas, but Lambros is getting that dank reprint we've
always dreamed of this month. Don't shoot your self in
the foot; grab those babies.
In summation, the only time you're gonna utilize
Maelstrom's power buff is if you can't make 4 attacks
happen for Lambros, you don't own Wailing Thavas, or you
don't have anything face-up in your G-Zone to make
Lambros or Thavas happen. Naturally, grab your Disaster
Maelstroms if you're an Oldguard enthusiast.
