Jonathan NgPokemon CotW 25
Today I'll cover the legendary birds (they're cool.)

Attack: [WWW] Freeze Dry
(30)
Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokemon is now
Paralyzed.

(50)
Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 10 damage to
each of your opponent's Benched Pokemon. If tails, this

Benched Pokemon.)
Name: Moltres

Resistance: F -30
Retreat: 2
Pokemon #: 146
Species: Flame
Level: 35
Attack: [R] Wildfire
You may discard any number of R Energy cards attached
to Moltres when you use this attack. If you do, discard
that many cards from the top of your opponent's deck.

For each of your opponent's Benched Pokemon, flip a
coin. If heads, this attack does 20 damage to that

Benched Pokemon.) Then, Zapdos does 10 damage times
the number of tails to itself.
Name: Zapdos
Type: Basic Pokemon
Card #: card 16 of 102
Rarity: Rare - Holo
Color: Lightning
HP: 90
HP
Weakness: none
Resistance: F -30

Attack: [LLLL] Thunderbolt
(100)
Discard all Energy cards to use.
History:
The Legendary Bird Pokemon Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres have passed
into legend because of their rarity. Only 1 of each exists in
the
entire world, and many a trainer have given up their whole lives
trying to search for them. Luckily, in the Red, Blue and
Yellow
games you don't have to search your whole life to find them.
And you
don't have to do that in the card game, either :-)
Strategy:
Note their high HP and no weakness. Also note their High
Energy
consumption. So most of the time you want to put them out to
stall
the other player so you can give your other Pokemon a chance.
You
would never do that in the Gameboy game, however ;-)
You can build them up to deal insanely large attacks, and sometimes
it's good to do so, since they're Basic Pokemon and don't require
evolution. The 4 Energy is an investment that might pay off
very
well. Particularly Zapdos L64 and Moltres because they can KO
a lot
of Pokemon in 1 hit (60 and 80 damage, though Moltres doesn't deal
it
half the time). But when you're Active and taking hits, it's
easy
for someone with a decent attack to KO _you_.
Due to the lack of good non-Lightning weak Water and non-Fighting
weak Lightning (and water-Weak Fire, as well), it's a good idea to
stick 1 or 2 in a deck that's mainly that colour. Rain Dance
is a
good example.
Strengths:
-no weakness to colours that have mainly 1 weakness
-insanely damaging attacks
-can be used to stall for time
Weaknesses:
-takes a long time to build up to deal damage
Combos:
-Articuno + Blastoise - eliminate waiting time for Freeze Dry and
Blizzard
Ratings:
9.0 each (okay, 8.5 to Zapdos L40, but that's because the L64 is
very good.). They're good :-)Pokemon CotW 24
You guys probably want to kill me for the lack of updates.
Yeah, just tie me
up and feed me to that Lugia over there...
So I'll give you a Fossil Set (5 Pokemon/1 Trainer)
Name: Mysterious Fossil
Type: Trainer
Card #: card 62 of 62
Rarity: Common
Text: Play Mysterious
Fossil as if it were a Basic Pokemon. While in
play, Mysterious Fossil counts as a Pokemon (instead of a Trainer
card). Mysterious Fossil has no attacks, can't retreat, and
can't
be Asleep, Confused, Paralyzed, or Poisoned. If Mysterious
Fossil
is Knocked Out, it doesn't count as a Knocked Out Pokemon.
(Discard it anyway.) At any time during your turn before your
attack, you may discard Mysterious Fossil from play.
Name: Aerodactyl
Type: Stage 1 -- from
Fossil
Card #: card 16 of 62
Rarity: Rare
Color: Fighting
HP: 60 HP
Weakness: G
Resistance: F -30
Retreat: 2
Pokemon #: 142
Species: Fossil
Level: 28
Power: "Prehistoric
Power"
No more Evolution cards can be played. This power stops
working
while Aerodactyl is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.
Attack: [3] Wing Attack
(30)
Name: Omanyte
Type: Stage 1 -- from
Fossil
Card #: card 52 of 62

HP: 40 HP
Weakness: G
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1
Pokemon #: 138
Species: Spiral

Power: "Clairvoyance"
Your opponent plays with his or her hand face up. This power
stops
working while Omanyte is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.
Attack: [W] Water Gun
(10+)
Does 10 damage plus 10 more damage for each W Energy attached to
Omanyte but not used to pay for this attack's Energy cost. You
can't add more than 20 damage in this way.
Name: Omastar
Type: Stage 2 -- from
Omanyte
Card #: card 40 of 62
Rarity: Uncommon

HP: 70 HP
Weakness: G
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1
Pokemon #: 139
Species: Spiral
Level: 32
Attack: [1W] Water Gun
(20+)
Does 20 damage plus 10 more damage for each W Energy attached to
Omastar but not used to pay for this attack's Energy cost. You
can't add more than 20 damage in this way.
[WW] Spike Cannon (30x) Flip 2 coins. This attack does
30 damage
times the number of heads.
Name: Kabuto
Type: Stage 1 -- from
Fossil
Card #: card 50 of 62
Rarity: Common
Color: Fighting
HP: 30 HP
Weakness: G
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1
Pokemon #: 140
Species: Shellfish
Level: 9
Power: "Kabuto Armor"
Whenever an attack (even your own) does damage to Kabuto (after
applying Weakness and Resistance), that attack only does half the
damage to Kabuto (rounded down to nearest 10). (Any other
effects
of attacks still happen.) This power stops working while Kabuto is
Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.
Attack: [1] Scratch (10)
Name: Kabutops
Type: Stage 2 -- from
Kabuto
Card #: card 9 of 62
Rarity: Rare - Holo
Color: Fighting
HP: 60 HP
Weakness: G
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1
Pokemon #: 141
Species: Shellfish
Level: 30
Attack: [FF] Sharp Sickle
(30)
Attack: [FFFF] Absorb (40)
Remove a number of damage counters from Kabutops equal to half the
damage done to Defending Pokemon (after applying Weakness and
Resistance) (rounded up to the nearest 10). If Kabutops has
fewer
damage counters than that, remove all of them.
History:
Pokemon from long ago eventually became extinct for unknown reasons.
Their
bones were buried and turned into fossils from millions of years of
pressure
and heat. Scientists were able to recreate these Pokemon from
those Fossils.
A large cache of them existed in Grampa Canyon, but was blown to
bits.
Strategy:
They're all quite different, so I'll talk about them one at a time:
Mysterious Fossil - nothing too big. 10 HP is nothing to write
home about.
Can be used as one-turn Fodder, or if it's a Ditto you're facing,
empty space :-
). But be prepared to lose it if you're not careful. You
only get 4, and
you'll probably need them to evolve if you want to use them
effectively.
Aerodactyl - a very strategic Pokemon. Prevents _everyone_
from evolving. So
you'll probably not want to include a lot of evolutions (duh).
It doesn't
prevent Brock's Ninetales, though (err... I should shut up now.)
Has a decent
attack, but since you probably don't want it to die, you should keep
it safe in
the back. (Mumble mumble Gusts mumble mumble...)
Omanyte/Omastar - Omanyte is cute and strange, but not very sturdy
(30 HP for
Stage 1?!) Looking at your opponent's hand isn't very
important unless you can
take advantage of it (Lass for example). Omastar's just a
plain vanilla Water
Pokemon - but it's at Stage 2.
Kabuto/Kabutops - Kabuto's got a nice power... if it had more HP.
I mean,
Scyther can KO this dude. Does prevent Pokemon with only 10
damage attacks
from pinging away... Kabutops is stronger, but people are
scared to death of
Fighting Pokemon and there are so many Fighting-Resistant Pokemon...
(But one
of the only few Absorb-like attacks outside of Grass!)
Strengths:
-not much really... Aerodactyl's got the Power, Kabutops has FF for
30 damage
and no drawback, and Omanyte also has a Power...
Weaknesses:
-are Stage 1/2 when they really should have been Basic/Stage 1
(except for
Aerodactyl) is what really hurts them. Otherwise they'd be
decent.
Combos:
-Aerodactyl + Devolution Spray - ensures your Pokemon evolve and
theirs doesn't.
-Omanyte + Lass - see what's in their hand before taking it all
away.
Ratings:
The Fossil - n/a (needed for evolution, almost useless if not)
Aerodactyl - 7.5
Omanyte/Omastar - 4.5
Kabuto/Kabutops - 4.5 (If they were 1 Evolution less each, I'd give
them 6.5.)
