This card’s name is just a mashup of Chatter of the Squirrel and Flusterstorm, and its mechanics kind of are too. But that doesn’t mean it’s not interesting. For one thing, we haven’t seen a new green storm card that was intended to win a game since, I think, Hunting Pack in Scourge. It does that job pretty well, which is somewhat true of any storm card with even a vague intention of that kind, but being green means that people might have to re-train themselves to expect the big finish from open green mana (as opposed to just blue or black). It may also help storm decks fight through effects like Meddling Mage – your opponent probably won’t draw enough of them to name every similar card in your deck!

Of course, you can also play it as an “ordinary” token generator in a squirrel deck. It’s perhaps a little awkward in that role, but given the relatively cheap cards in that tribe and abundance of mana in green, it can be explosive as such, even inconsistently. I think if it’s used in constructed, it’ll be more in dedicated storm decks, but you shouldn’t underestimate squirrels’ popularity in casual. If there’s even a chance to make it work there, someone will try.

One of the limited archetypes for Modern Horizons 2 was to go with storm for R/G, and green does have squirrels in abundance. So, somehow, Chatterstorm was inevitable, and it is glorious. Ramping into a horde of chittering death squirrels is a solid enough game plan (and it’s good even if you only have a couple of squirrels, as 2 1/1 tokens for 2 mana is a fair enough deal), and it gets even nuttier if you have triggers like Impact Tremors or Purphoros to make life entertaining. Chatterstorm is cheap enough to maybe be splashable, but it shines brightest if you can abuse it somehow, and never underestimate the ability for a proactive card with storm to be turned into a massive problem.

Constructed: 4
Casual: 5
Limited: 3.5 (harder to set up a massive storm turn, but doable enough if you play carefully, and even a couple squirrels can make this worth it)
Multiplayer: 3.25
Commander: 4
