I can’t help but notice that Cleopatra is the same colors as the Amonkhet card they made to reference her, presumably not knowing that they would one day make an actual Cleopatra card. As it happens, though, they don’t play particularly similarly – the Exiled Pharaoh is a synergy card oriented towards your side of the table, and reads somewhat more defensively (if you think of it as protecting modified legendary creatures). Of course, you can also read it as a solitaire card in this color combination’s traditions of sacrificing your own things for profit. Obviously drawing cards is a major profit and many people’s favorite type of profit, but even more than that, the ability feels like it’s about one step away from being an engine.

We didn’t get Caesar, Mark Antony, or Octavian in the Assassin’s Creed set, but I feel I should point out that they have previously made a handful of Roman Republic themed cards if you want to try and make a theme deck.

Yet another historical figure getting their due, Cleopatra is one of those names people just know, the legendary female pharaoh who effectively went down with her kingdom. Notably, Cleopatra is a pretty interesting creature, a “legends matter” sort of supporter…and benefactor. Keep in mind how she’s worded: any legendary creature will proc her ability. While the intent is clear (buff yours), you can still use her to reap reward from timely kill spells. The 2 life can add up in a long game, but if you can draw a couple of cards, that’s already a fair trade. I think she’s a fascinating weapon that can help you grind out advantage, though her relative lack of immediate impact makes for a hard sell in deeper formats.
