Happy Friday! Someone who is not happy is a Condemned Witch, this Level 4 Dark Fairy-type monster with 100 Atk and 2000 Def. Why isn’t she happy? She has terrible stats. Why give a monster a Normal Summon effect and then 2000 Def? It just seems wrong. After she is Normal Summoned, she lets you search your deck for a Forbidden QuickPlay Spell once per turn. Those are ok cards, but they have lost favor to Hand Traps. The second effect is great except it only works during your opponent’s Main Phase. As a QuickEffect, you can tribute Condemned Witch to Special Summon any Level 4 Fairy from the deck. This is once per turn as well which makes sense and there are plenty of options to go for. I would put three of this in the side deck with one Barrier Statue of the Heavens in a light deck if I knew the opponent was playing anything other than Light monsters. Too bad Artifacts are Level 5. Condemned Witch does some cool things, but her stats are off and her effects activate at the wrong times. If you could grab a Forbidden Spell during your opponent’s turn and then use it from the hand, that would be something awesome.

We end this week off with the girl on the Forbidden cards after she got punished in Solemn Strike, Condemned Witch.

Condemned Witch is a Level 4 DARK Fairy with 100 ATK and 2000 DEF. ATK is terrible, but DEF is great on a Level 4. DARK and Fairy is an odd combination, but it’s fine. When Condemned Witch is Normal Summoned, you can add any Forbidden Quick-Play Spell from your deck to your hand. Forbidden Chalice might be your best bet, followed by Forbidden Lance. Forbidden Dress is just a worse Forbidden Lance almost and Forbidden Scripture is too niche to be played really. During your opponent’s Main Phase (Quick Effect), you can tribute this card to summon any Level 4 Fairy from the deck except Condemned Witch. Nice to see Fairies get basically a Lonefire Blossom, though a bit more limited. Some of the best Fairies are Level 4, so this can be forgiven. Bountiful Artemis is probably what you are summoning off this cause this is likely being played in Counter Fairies, so it is nice to have 6 Bountiful Artemis basically. Both effects of Condemned Witch are hard once per turns so you don’t get too many Forbidden Chalices and Bountiful Artemis. Condemned Witch is another good card with future potential as we get more Fairy archetypes and Forbidden Quick-Play Spells, but still important in Counter Fairies.

Halloween season has come and gone (especially seeing as it’s the day after Thanksgiving) but closing the week is Condemned Witch.  Dark Thunder, Light Fiends, here is a Dark Fairy…a fallen angel of sorts who became a Witch?  Being Level 4 with 100 attack isn’t going to win (m)any contests, but the 2000 defense is a sight for sore eyes.

So, you give up your Normal Summon using it on this card to add a ‘Forbidden’ Quickplay Magic card from your Deck to your Hand.  Which, at last count, was four…Forbidden Chalice, Dress, Lance, and Scripture.  The first three work on an attack/defense increase or decrease to offer effect negation, or protection for other card types, whatever it happens to be.

Scripture works a bit differently, applying original attack and defense and negating all other card effects on the Field.  All these cards seem to be flavor cards over the past several formats and years.  They are all Quickplay, as mentioned, so they can be used offensively and/or defensively, for you or your opponent’s Monsters.  She’s definitely better than her Condemned Maiden sister.

If you use multiples of those cards, I wouldn’t fault you for using this.  The defense is solid enough, and getting access to any of those Forbidden Magic cards should give you some advantage for a turn.  Each effect can only be used once per turn (but again, an improvement over the Maiden, as hers is less powerful and only able to be used once per Duel).

Art:  5/5  I do love the picture.  But I feel there needed to be more Light or Fairy in here since she IS a Fairy, but the Darkness is represented well.  I guess I can note that she’s obviously very condemned looking, but not necessarily evil.
