Cosmic Slicer Zer’oll – #DAMA-EN047

2+ Reptile monsters – Monsters your opponent controls with A-Counters are changed to Defense Position, also neither player can activate their effects. You can only use each of the following effects of “Cosmic Slicer Zer’oll” once per turn. If this card is Link Summoned: You can add 1 card from your Deck to your hand that has an effect that places A-Counter(s). You can remove 2 A-Counters from anywhere on the field; immediately after this effect resolves, Normal Summon 1 Reptile monster.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Cosmic Slicer Zer’oll wraps up the week and is another Link Monster for the Alien archetype.

Link 3 needing all Reptile monsters and at least two of them, Zer’oll forces your opponent’s monsters with A-Counters to go into defense and stay there (Link Monsters laugh at this). Effects of opponent’s monsters with A-Counters can’t be activated, so that’s a good piece of negation you can set up with distributing A-Counters with Alien Shocktrooper M-Frame before climbing the ladder into this. RoTA for any “A-Counter” card from your deck each turn is a necessary search for this archetype that had hardly any search power for its spell/trap pool. Mysterious Triangle has the most upside immediately: destroying a monster with an “A-Counter” on it and Special Summoning a Level 4 Alien from your deck. Extra Normal Summon for the cost of 2 A-Counters each turn is technically a -1 for you, but it is a way to get more monsters on the field and get to bigger monsters through your Extra Deck.

This card is better than yesterdays card. It does more with less needed and helps to lock down your opponent. It has the same ATK and uses likely the same amount of monsters as your Synchro Summon would need to use. Zer’oll does need to be Link Summoned to gain its effects, but that is a typical restriction.

The week ends off with the new Link-3 for Aliens: Cosmic Slicer Zer’oll.

Zer’oll is a Link-3 LIGHT Reptile with 2600 ATK and arrows pointing Bottom Left, Bottom Right, and Up. Basically same opinion on the stats, expect now we got Link Arrows that are solid. 2+ Reptiles summons this, and while Aliens aren’t the best at spamming the board with their best Special Summon enablers being Ammonite and Dog, you can at least throw in other Reptile packages to try and meet the requirements. Monsters the opponent controls that have A-Counters are changed to Defense Position and cannot activate their effects, which is a pretty nice effect to force onto every monster. Even if Links can’t go to Defense, you still lock their effects down if you can get an A-Counter on them. Two other effects on this are a hard once per turn. First one letting you search a card that places A-Counters from Deck to hand on Link Summon, which can get some solid cards like “A” Cell Recombination Device or Planet Pollutant Virus for Spells or Traps, or some of your better Aliens like Kid, Dog, Overlord, etc. Second effect lets you remove 2 A-Counters to Normal Summon a Reptile monster, which is a good effect to make sure you can make more plays. Remember, most the old Aliens have no hard once per turn clause, especially Ammonite if you are wanting to go for Gol’gar. Overall this is a pretty solid Link-3 for Aliens, even if it does take a bit of an investment for them. Hopefully we get more support in the future at least.

An Extra Arrow and 700 more attack brings us to Cosmic Slicer Zer’oll to close the week.  Light/Reptile, but great, Link 3 with 2600 attack, also wonderful, and simply needing 2+ Reptiles for a Link Summon.  Arrows here point to the bottom diagonals, as well as directly above center.  Your opponent’s Monsters with A-Counters are changed to Defense position; fun I suppose, but as the counters usually drop their attack, you may WANT them in attack to be dealing damage.  Two Once per Turn Effects are attached as well:

*Adding any card to your Hand, from your Deck, so long as it lists ‘A-Counters’ in its text.  That’s not a big Deck to choose from, but it’s still instant/free access of this Link Summon to the card of your choosing, and I’m good with a free card.

*Removing 2 A-Counters from the Field, again, from anywhere (and I still love it), lets you Normal Summon a Reptile.  If 2 counters destroys a card with Gol’gar, you’re definitely getting a downgrade here.  The Normal Summon aspect is nice, I suppose, as any no or locked out of Special Summon nonsense wouldn’t interfere with that.  Honestly, Gol’gar > this, and it’s a bit of a gap.

Rating:  2.75/5

Art:  4.5/5  This IS much more menacing and intimidating than Gol’gar though.
