Cultivator’s Caravan was an unexpected inclusion in Foundations, but a rather welcome one. Thanks to the (slightly convoluted) rules about the set’s legalities, it is allowed in Standard despite being part of the Starter Collection and not the “main” set. This means it was released just in time to interact with Aetherdrift‘s vehicle theme, and in that context, it takes on a new dimension since there are a significant number of colored vehicles and support cards. Even beyond that, mana fixing and acceleration are generally always useful, and the option of a pseudo-free 5/5 creature makes it even better. It’s not always the most spectacular card in a deck, much less a set, but it generally performs better than the way it initially reads.

Cultivator’s Caravan was quite an effective card back in its initial Standard run, a mana rock that can double as a face-smasher in a later game. Three mana is a bit high for a mere rock, but it can work in a pinch, especially since this isn’t just a rock; a 5/5 is pretty competent offensively and can definitely create a little chaos. There’s also been plenty of Vehicle support cards that help this be more effective, and while that applies to all of the vehicles, this is a solid generic, flashy one that can put in work over a game. Nothing flashy, and it hasn’t really shone outside of its Standard, but you can definitely do a lot worse.
