You couldn’t have a reference to the famous Ring (Ringu) franchise without the card – well, literally killing you under the right circumstances. It will do so much easier than it looks, too. The kinds of spells that are often most tempting to copy are often also the kind you want to have a lot of in your deck: cheap cantrips, cards that create copies of permanents or other spells, combat tricks. You really have to keep your foot on the gas when playing with this card, but you’re helped by the fact that those classes of cards tend to be good at winning the game when you copy them. This is definitely one of the most fun-oriented cards from Duskmourn, but I think it might turn out to be powerful too: a deck built around it and also using streamlined tournament-style spells sounds quite scary, at least on paper.

Risk and reward play well together. Cursed Recording offers a potent effect, copying your next instant or sorcery in a turn, and it asks for no mana to do so once it’s on board! The price is your soul, as this exacts a steep price if you cast too many spells, and keep in mind that this even counts spells not copied. This feels like it’s going to break something; while not every deck will be ble to win in six spells or less (or play in a way that the downside doesn’t come into play), this is an effect that can do a lot of damage if you’re willing to play with fire a bit.

Constructed: 4 (maybe optimistic, but three mana is really cheap for a repeatable replicator)
Casual: 4.5
Limited: 3
Multiplayer: 3
Commander [EDH]: 4.25 (starting at 40 life means you have a bit of a buffer)
