We don’t look at D/D/D too often on here, but if we’re going to complete all the anime ace retrains, we had to cover D/D/D Vice King Requiem at some point.

Requiem is a Level 8 Scale 4 DARK Fiend Pendulum with 2800 ATK and 2000 DEF. A pretty good statline for this, plus it has the nice combo all the D/D monsters have with DARK and Fiend, also the Scale is fine since if you ever are Pendulum Summoning in D/D/Ds actually, you’re more likely summoning the bigger monsters. The Pendulum Effect lets you target any number of Dark Contract cards you control to destroy them, and if you do, you can Special Summon this card from your Pendulum Zone, and then increase or decrease the Level of this card by the number of cards destroyed. So it at least Special Summons itself somehow. Destroying your Dark Contracts might not always be the best unless their burn damage would finish you off the next turn, but D/D/D most of the time could finish the game before the burn damage would add up to mattering, and they probably lost if they didn’t finish the game anyways. At the very least, you do still get to Special Summon this by popping just 1 card if you wanted, then making this a Level 7 to help Synchro Summon your D/D/D Cursed King Siegfried or make it a Level 9 to Synchro Summon your D/D/D Gust High King Alexander. Keeping it Level 8 helps Xyz summon your D/D/D Duo-Dawn King Kali Yuga, and he’s a beast of a card. More cards destroyed means a higher Level adjustment for your other D/D/D Extra Deck cards, and looking at his Monster Effect, you’ll see his goal is to be used to summon the D/D/Ds in the Extra Deck. Hard once per turn on the Pendulum Effect is fine. To now start with the Monster Effect, you can only Special Summon D/D/D monsters while you control this, which is probably to make sure you only use this to summon a D/D/D, but it does suck to be prevented from Special Summoning the regular D/Ds while controling this. Anyways, a D/D/D monster that was Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Summoned using this card on the field gains the effect where once per turn, you can target a card on the field to then shuffle a Dark Contract from your field or graveyard into the Deck to destroy that card and then gain 1000 LP. It’s a nice removal effect to add on to your D/D/D boss monsters at the very least, wish it was a Quick Effect as well, but D/D/D have a ton of ways to access a lot of disruptive cards already. It at least recycles your Dark Contracts as well and gives you a 1000 LP boost to make up for the burn on the Dark Contracts if that was starting to add up. You can only give this effect to a monster that used Requiem as material once per turn, but I doubt you’ll get Requiem back out in the same turn to try and do it again anyways. Requiem is a fine card for D/D/D, an easy Special Summon and it makes your other D/D/D bosses even stronger, it just doesn’t feel necessary. The removal isn’t that highly needed and D/D/Ds already have a ton of ways to keep swarming their board. It’s not a bad card, just does a lot of things that D/D/D already did, except make their Link Monster better than it already is, which was already really good for them.

Advanced Rating: 2.75/5

Art: 3.5/5 Less basic than Doom King Armageddon at the very least.

Sunday brings us another member of the ever growing D/D/D family with Vice King Requiem (the name is pretty cool).  Level 8, with 2800 atk is great (2000 def is fine) and Dark/Fiend are beautiful together.  The Monster Effect here locks you out of Special Summoning non D/D/D Monsters…which…sucks, but can work I suppose in a dedicated Theme build.  A Monster of this designation that was Fusion, XYZ, Synchro, or Link Summoned using this card gains the Effect to Target a card on the Field and also shuffle a ‘Dark Contract’ card (of which there are 8) from your Hand or Graveyard back to your Deck to then destroy the Targeted card and gain 1000 Lifepoints.  Let’s see…that card pool even in multiples is limited, and you’re probably not playing them all, and that’s not a GREAT Effect.  Yes, you are ridding a card from the Field, and the cost here isn’t unreasonable, but to give up something so specific and only nuke one card seems a bit lackluster.  The 1000 Lifepoints is nice, (and I’m a fan of Life gain) but that’s not likely to be particularly relevant most of the time either.  You can use this Effect once per Turn, so those Lifepoints could start to add up, but with matches being so short, I don’t see that being all that beneficial either.

On the Pendulum Side, it has a scale of 4…which could be better, but certainly could be worse.  Targeting and destroying any number of ‘Dark Contract’ cards you control can Special Summon this card but only from your Pendulum Zone.  If you only destroy 1, you’re technically still a -1, you’re giving up 1 card, but you’re not GAINING a new card, simply changing its board state.  It’s interesting this card can increase or decrease its Level by the number of cards you destroy…like the Monster side, while not a bad Effect, it’s not going to be particularly useful more than not, in my opinion.  It doesn’t really do enough to have you move it from your Pendulum Zone.

Art:  4/5  This is a fun pic, though he kinda looks like he should be a Machine in that armor, and maybe even an Insect.
