Hello Pojo Fans,

Daigusto Emeral is another in a long line of generic Rank 4’s that can be broken.

Two Level 4 monsters, so splashable, good start. Lower ATK/DEF for a Rank 4, but not the worst of the Rank 4’s that are out there. A single detach for a 60% Pot of Avarice and Jar of Green combo is good. Cycle back some Extra Deck targets to get the free draw and not add back anything you may redraw. Ironically with so many decks playing Red-Eyes Black Dragon and Dark Magician for Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon, the second effect of Emeral would get them a decent attacker. This also works with Extra Deck monsters that have no effects and even stuff like PSY-Frame Driver. If you are still running Emeral though you are running it for the single draw because getting a draw that costs you nothing is great. You can cycle back hand traps, boss monsters, or, as previously mentioned, Extra Deck monsters and get the draw. Once used up Emeral can be used for a Link Summon or maybe even a Rank-Up target.

Not as popular or important to the meta as it once was, but that’s the story for so many cards. Emeral is still a good Rank 4 and if I ran some Level 4’s I’d try to find a spot for him in my Dark Magician build.

Superdimensional Robot Galaxy Destroyer is a beast of a monster if you can summon it.

Three Level 10 monsters is a lot, even with the amount of Level 10 monsters that can be summoned thanks to Pendulum Summoning and their own Special Summon effects (usually cutting their ATK/DEF in half or costing you LP). This card is made for Trains. Yes there are other Level 10 monsters that can be Special Summoned, and the card I always think of is Metal Reflect Slime to also be used, but with cards like Super Express Bullet Train and Night Express Knight able to be summoned with ease, it is so much easier to summon SRGD in that archetype. 5000ATK is world-wrecking power for any monster, combine that with Spell Speed 4 spell/trap destruction from one detached material, and you have an OTK/FTK monster on your hands. In Trains you can combine this with Limiter Removal or Power Bond and ensure for a kill shot (but with Power Bond make sure you are free and clear). While there aren’t many battle traps played anymore, and monster effects are the name of the game in most strategies, SRGD is still one hell of an attacking monster.

Super easy to bring out and clean house in Trains, you saw Trains combine with Shaddolls for more power and even use Shekhinaga as material for it. While not widely able to be used, it is still powerful, board-dominating, and easy to use.

We start the week entering the top 5 Xyzs, though we got the last of the ties here, with another good Rank 4 from the Duel Terminal storyline and another Rank 10 that takes a little more investment than Gustav Max. From Hidden Arsenal/Duel Terminal 7 we have Daigusto Emeral and from Return of the Duelist we have Superdimensional Robot Galaxy Destroyer.

Starting with Emeral, we have a Rank 4 WIND Rock with 1800 ATK and 800 DEF. Again, not the greatest Rank 4 stats, and another oddball pairing of Rock and WIND. Anyways, 2 Level 4s makes this and you get a once per turn effect to either return 3 monsters from grave to your Deck for a draw or the ability to revive any non-Effect monster in your graveyard. The first effect is better, basically being a Pot of Avarice that could loop other copies of Emeral when it’s at multiples, since the TCG still has this limited after its short stint being banned. Even at 1, the ability to recycle monsters is pretty solid on a card you don’t have to draw, and of course I wouldn’t expect this to be a shuffle 5 to draw 2, otherwise it’s just a strictly better Pot of Avarice, but the nerfed version is sitll as good. The ability to revive a non-Effect monster might come up in some Decks, but it isn’t as relevant as the recycle effect. Unlike Lavalval Chain having 2 abusable effects, this card only has 1, but the abuse is minimzied by its limitation in the TCG. Still a solid Rank 4 I can see popping up in some Decks, and maybe we could bring this back to 3 since I don’t imagine it’ll be the most insane thing anymore to loop itself, though probably better to not risk.

Now for Robot Galaxy Destroyer, we got a Rank 10 LIGHT Machine with 5000 ATK and 2000 DEF. A great ATK stat overall tied for highest original ATK in the game, LIGHT and Machine also make for a good combo. 3 Level 10 monsters does make this more tricky to summon than Gustav Max, but it’s feasible in dedicated Rank 10 Decks. In return, you get the once per turn effect to detach a material to destory all Spells and Traps the opponent controls without said opponent getting a chance to use them in response. So it’s a Spell Speed 4 on a generic Xyz. It sounds banworthy if you don’t take into consideration what you need to summon it. Sure, you can do it and I’m sure many Rank 10 players won some games by having this. The main issue of having Harpie’s Feather Duster on legs is that the opponent can use an effect to stop it before it triggers, especially if it’s one that doesn’t let them respond with Spells and Traps. I like this card a lot and I think it’s a good Xyz, certainly one worth having in a Rank 10 arsenal. Just the biggest turnaway from this card is the investment to summon it.

We move into the back half of the top 10 XYZ’s opening with another pair of cards today.  Daigusto Emeral, who not Banned (at present) does hold Restricted status.  Wind and Rock are alright (Wind is actually not great for Rocks, causing erosion, but not as odd or harmful as say, Water/Machine).  Rank 4, 1800/800 is meh, needing any two generic Level 4s for an XYZ Summon.  This is a perfect example of a simple card, being quite powerful, without doing anything SO remarkable, but still being really effective and advantageous.  Detaching a Material either cycles 3 cards from your Grave back to your Deck, all while netting you a Draw after.  Or Special Summoning a non-Effect Monster from your Grave is your other option.  Just remember both Effects here are Targeting ones.  The first one is, at least initially, a 1-for-1.  You discard the Material and get a Draw.  You can, of course, plus into more advantage off of that, and you can always run into the cards you recycle later too!  I’m venturing the two big reasons this card was Banned/now Limited includes it’s too easy to abuse itself in multiples and it can potentially be a floodgate.

Rating:  4.25/5  Versatility is key

Art:  The Wind theme is clearly present, and I do actually like this.  He kinda looks like a green Stratos to me.  4/5

For our second card, and one you should know I rather enjoy from last week, is the brute Superdimensional Robot Galaxy Destroyer (not just Dimensional-SUPERDimensional).  Rank 10 is easier to obtain, especially in the Theme these days, as well as options and cards available to make Ranking up and manipulating Levels all the easier too.  This is a card that can/should/has won games, and still can if you’re willing to dedicate yourself to it.  It needs a constructed build, not necessarily in a Rail or Train Theme.  There can certainly be OTK of this guy in various forms too.  A 5000 attack body attached with nuking your opponent’s back row, and your opponent can only respond to that Effect via Monster Effects?  Yes, please!  You can always get burned and have this card hit before the Effect triggers, but you get that Effect off once, it should be clear sailing from there.  I try as a rule not to rate (more/solely) on potential than playability, but it’s a factor here.

Rating:  4/5

Art:  5/5  This guy clearly is a Transformer/Gundam hybrid, and you gotta be able to get inside that thing and fly around (and ideally not destroy Galaxies; even in Yugioh, I’m not going to endorse Galactic destruction).
