Hello Pojo Fans,

Dragon Ravine is one of the more broken cards in the game because of its splashability, and is our Throwback Thursday choice.

Foolish Burial for Dragons or a Dragunity lower level search Field Spell, Ravine was used in several decks and archetypes throughout the years. Dragon Rulers especially made this card busted enough to have it get hit by the ban list. Now unlimited, Dragunity have the chance of being full power again. Lower level Dragunity are what get your strategy going and you can discard a Dragunity monster to just bring it back later. There are seven or so good targets for Ravine, but Dux is likely your best one. You hope to set up your grave with your discard cost then get things rolling with the monster your search, but now you can use the discard to Foolish Burial a Dragon and then use something like Arma Gram even quicker. Terraforming is still Limited, but Remus can search Ravine, which also gives you a monster in the grave that can Special Summon itself when you have a Dragunity on the field. Dux or Pilum you will search if you have nothing good, Phalanx and Remus if you are looking to Synchro.

Because of the changing landscape of the game, and limitations thanks to the ban list, Dragon Ravine has been able to come back and give Dragunity a chance at being meta-relevant once more. It is no longer a card that is used everywhere, it’s a card used in Dragunity.

Throwback Thursday might of been an easy guess this week, but of course it’s Dragon Ravine.

Dragon Ravine is a Field Spell that lets you discard a card once per turn to either add a Level 4 or lower Dragunity from your Deck to your hand or send any Dragon from the Deck to the graveyard. Both effects were perfect for Dragunity. First off you can get a good Dragunity to Normal Summon like Dux or Senatus to get plays going and setup the grave with the discard and Senatus if you search that. Or you could search a discard target for Cards of Consonance I guess. Sending any Dragon from the Deck to the grave gets a little too generic. Destrudo was a powerful target when it was legal, alongside the Dragon Rulers where only 3 of the 4 are still banned, and you got Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm to revive itself and get a free body. Of course you can get a Dragunity you want in grave like Remus, Phalanx, or Couse and that’s useful in Dragunity. It’s just unfourunate this was too generic cause it got the card banned at one point, but at least it’s at 3 again. Dragon Ravine is a key card to Dragunity and many other Dragon strategies that need the graveyard. Being a soft once per turn is great to abuse cards like Zephyros the Elite to bounce it back and use again, or just use multiple copies. Either way, you max out on Dragon Ravine due to the soft once per turn, no matter how searchable it is.

Dragon Ravine is the appropriate Throwback Thursday choice, having been referenced through the week.  A Normal Magic with two separate effects, which can be used once per turn, at the cost of a generic Discard.  You either gain a Level 4 or below Dragunity from your Deck to your Hand, or dump a Dragon from your Deck to your Grave.  Either way, you’re setting yourself up, likely for a big play, again, likely from your Extra Deck, regardless of what your choose.  You get the Monster in your Hand you need to make that play.  Or you get what you want in the Grave to resurrect or attach said Monster to something you all ready have on the Field.  The -1 is of no consequence as you likely are going to just have more fuel for whatever you’re playing.  But it can be any discard, so it may just end up being fodder.  But not likely.
