Super Saiyan Trunk's review of
Dragonball Z Shin Budokai

6.1.06 - By SuperSaiyanTrunks

Well, it’s been awhile since I wrote a Video Game review for DBZ, so I’ll work with this one. Dragonball Z Shin Budokai is a decent game to be headed to the PSP. Its fighting style is different, yes, but I still liked it. With the famous story line filling in on Fusion Reborn movie, you would probably think its short. The story line is actually longer then I expected it to be, but the only downside is, you got to fight these guys like 50 times. What’s cool about it, however, is that sometimes you get to choose which way you go. Yes, you do get to go back and fight the other way, but it was a clever addition to the game that made me enjoy it more.

This is the first game to have the warrior Pikkon in it, which was also sweet. In the story line, you do get to fight all the major villains again, like Cooler, Broly, Cell, ect. There are not as many characters in it as Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi, but it is a good title for the PSP. It does have other features to it too, like Battle Mode, Time Challenge, and Survival; all are fun to play on boring car trips. You don’t really buy the skills in this game, you buy stamps; There collectible things that you can use for the game. Some of them you can use as back rounds too. There are 18 total characters in this game, including all the favorites, like Goku, Vegeta and Trunks.

Dragonball Z Shin Budokai is also Wi-Fi compatible, which means you can battle anywhere. Dragonball Z: Fusion Reborn was a great movie, and this is a great game to go along with it. Some of it is a little strange, but it is easy to get used to. What I mean is, yes, they changed it again (control wise, that is) from Budokai to Tenkaichi to this one. It battles like the Budokai 1-3, which is also a little added treat. (I like all the games, but I always like the Budokai fights 1-3 just a tad more). Honestly, if your picking up a PSP and you are a Dragonball Z fan, I would get this game. I would however, watch the movie first so you can get a general idea about what is going on in the game, and you can follow the storyline better.

Scores:

Animation: 8/10

Controls: 7/10

Sound: 8.5/10

Storyline: 9/10 (really if you liked the movie…)

Graphics: 8.5/10

Overall:

I’ll give it an 8.5/10. It’s really a good price and a good game to boot. I would REALLY look into this game.
