Matthew Low on Score's Dragon Ball TCG

Hello Pojo Readers, sorry I haven’t written very many emails as of late. College has taken its toll on me, and I’ve branched off to play the Inuyasha TCG, which is taking a lot of my time. Don’t expect too much from me though, but I’m doing my best. I’ve just got a ton of things on my plate now.

As many of you have noticed, there has been a severe drop off in the card game, which we can blame a lot of things for. The biggest one is the lack of Premier level DBGT TCG tournaments, whereas we are down to 2 Regionals and 2 Worlds in 2005 instead of the 14 Regionals, 2 Worlds, 1 GKI, and 1 GenCon SoCal in 2004.

However, breaking news has come up in the DBGT TCG world. As detailed in the news on both Score’s site and Pojo’s site, the DBGT TCG is retiring. The anticipated Anthologies Saga is now just a myth of the past. It was fun while it lasted, but Score is acting on a whim that might actually be good. Farewell DBGT TCG, it has been a great ride.

But don’t stop reading there. While the DBGT is over both as an anime and as a TCG, that’s not the end of the road. Funimation is still releasing movies 10, 11, 12, and 13 in the future, and the redubbing of the uncut Saiyan and Namek Sagas are things to look forward to. Not to mention all the new DBZ video games. There are plenty of things that Score missed on its initial run, and they also haven’t made cards on the DBGT Movie, A Hero’s Legacy. I’d also look forward to the redubbing of movies 1, 2, and 3, which I’m assuming Funimation is doing since I see movie 1 up for preorder on a site already.

This game is not dead. It is just on an extended hiatus. According to Score, they are releasing a new game will use a new machine but still be able to use the old cards. I’m not sure how, and quite frankly, am looking forward to seeing how this all pans out. But we will see. This will be called the DBZ TCG, different from the DBZ CCG.

For now, play causally and enjoy what’s left of the DBGT TCG days. MarsCon is coming up so make sure you make an appearance if you can. Focused will be terminated come the new DBZ TCG, and replaced with the sets of the new game. But the loved Expanded will still be around, and I am looking forward to it.

Time is long, and we have no idea what Score has in store for us. Keep your hopes up, keep playing, and wait patiently for come late June/early July. News should start popping up all over come that time. Don’t be discouraged by the wait. I’m thinking that we will be rewarded for our patience. Right now, the outlook is pretty good.

This game is awesome. I look forward to a big revival, back to the glory days of DBZ.
