Dragon
Ball Game Reviews
Super
Boutoden 2
Some people may claim Hyper Dimension to be the best Dragon Ball game on Super
Famicom (SNES in the states). Personally, my friends and I like this game a lot better. Of course, for more reasons on that, read the Hyper Dimension review. Well anyway, this game looks rather simple. That's because it's a fairly old game. Also, the music isn't exactly ear catching either. Ever go to a website where they have background music that loops over and over? That's what the music in this is game is like.
However, how many people buy a fighting game for the music? While graphics and music do play a role in helping to decide which game to buy, the game itself is the key factor. The fighting engine in Super Boutoden 2 remains roughly the same as the first Super Boutoden, except now you can charge up your super meter on your own, instead of fighting till it maxes out (as in the first one.) When I got this game in the mail from a friend, I was pretty happy. The game is fun, and if you have Katakana/Hiragana charts (so you can translate the text), the Story mode is a great addition.
Two player mode is where the funs at. I mean, how often do you have more in one player mode then two in a fighting game? It makes it a lot more unpredictable (unless your opponent is cheap :P). I also like the animation for the super moves, and power fights (when two ki beams collide, and you have to button mash like a mad man so your move hits) are fun, but sort of hard to pull off.
Overall, I'm going to say, if you can find a place that carrys this game, get it. It's not hard to modify a SNES so it plays Japanese games, and if you can get a Super
Famicom, all the better.
