Return to Pojo's Dragonball

Q: OK, now I am sorry to have to start off this way, but I will now ask
about your mailbag. What do you believe your Mailbag section has taught you about people?

A: I believe it's taught us that there are many kinds of people out there. These people range from hard-core Japanese DBZ fans that've been into the series for years, to little children who've just gotten into the dubbing of the series. This includes both literate and illiterate people of all ages in between.

Q: OK, to keep on the subject. Do you believe the boldness of some of the people on the Internet? Do you believe that the only reason they act like this is because they know they will never meet you?

A: That's always definitely going to be a reason for any e-mail, in general.

Q: So now moving on, what do you think about the recent manga incident at Toys r us?

A: I think it's a load of crap that just goes to show how freaking culturally ignorant a large majority of the population is.

Q: Do you think that people jump to conclusions before even knowing the whole of the story?

A: Yes, beyond a reasonable doubt.

Q: What is your outlook on fansubs? Do you believe that they help spread the popularity of Dragonball? Also, do you think that fansubs hurt, help, or have no effect on FUNimation's success?

A: I have the same feeling on them as Gen Fukunaga, himself. I see absolutely no problem with TRADING fansubs amongst a group of fans (I make copies of fansubs for any of my friends that ask for them). When bootleggers start SELLING FOR PROFIT lots of fansubs (especially those of poor quality), you're hurting not only FUNimation, but the fans, themselves.

Q: Staying on the subject of FUNimation, what did you think about Season 3, improvement or disappointment?

A: An utter and complete disappointment.

Q: Vegeta vs. ???? What would be the best fight?

A: Piccolo. Definitely Piccolo.

Q: OK, here is a different type of question. Do you believe that Planet
Namek is at the top of the dragonball community? It is almost as if Planet Namek is a monopoly after "taking over" Karin Tower and Tankouban DB, what are your comments on that?

A: I believe that MrE at Planet Namek has been great in offering some of us the space we need to continue our sites. I don't see him as taking over the DB/net community (that's my job... oh crap, did I say that out loud? I HAVE NO PLANS TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD! I SWEAR!). The maintainers of the sites in question have just had enough of the DB-website thing, and I can't really blame them. Rather than have their material go into obsolescence and be stolen by legions of website newbies, I think it's great that they'll continue to live on, albeit from a different host.

Q: Have you ever maintained web sites in the past? If so, then what were they named and what were they about?

A: "VegettoEX's Home Page" was the first "site" I ever created (although it started out as "VegettoEX's Ultimate DBZ Links Page"). I did a little HTML work and writing for a now-dead #ssppp page (Ramza of "Dragon Ball Blast" and I did the site together), and I've written for vg-otaku.com. Saiyajin17 and I might have a special project in the works in the near future, but this shall remain a secret. I've also considered doing a Creed website, but this lost my interest when I realized how lazy I was.

Q: What are your opinion's on page piracy, do page pirates have any place on the Internet?

A: I think if they eventually figure out that what they're doing is wrong,
there's not a problem. The person who wants to make a name for themselves and never uses anything original is the person who really gives me a problem.

Q: This isn't a very important question, but what was your favorite DBZ movie?

A: DBZ movie nine.

Q: OK, now going back to FUNimation. Is there any hope for these guys? Or will we always know FUNimation as the show with an announcer that has a wrestling voice, bad dialogue, and horrible music?

A: At this point, I see absolutely NO hope for a good dub. FUNi had a chance to pull it off really well; they completely blew it. Poor casting, poor music, and poor dialogue royally screwed them over, in that respect. As for the subbed episodes on DVD, I have nothing but high expectations for those.

Q: OK, now let's just say that Dragonball Z was never brought to America? If you could pick only one Dragonball Z saga to show to the USA, Which one would you pick? Would it be because you felt it showcased what Dragonball was about best or because it is your personal Favorite?

A: I would show the episode where Jinzonigen 16 Gou's head is crushed by Perfect Cell, which finally pushes Gohan over the edge into Super Saiya-jin 2. I've always found this episode to really be a tear-jerker. Combine the insanely amazing animation with the pure musical pleasure of Kageyama Hironobu-sama's voice in "Unmei no Hi ~Tamashii tai Tamashii~" .... man... it's too perfect. It's not only MY personal favorite episode, but yes, I find that it truly captures what "DragonBall" is all about.

Q: Now, lets have another "what if question"? Let's say Gokuh was never born, what do you feel would have happened to the Earth?

A: Easy. Pilaf would be king!!!! THREE CHEERS FOR PILAF!!!

Q: I see that you take a lot of pride in your editorial's, do you believe
out of your whole site that the editorial's best showcase your feelings on Dragonball and how others should act?

A: I find my editorials to be the absolute best way for me to truly convey my feelings without worrying about how much space I'm taking up on the screen. If that fits your description, than so be it.

Q: This is a hard question to answer, but do you plan to have your site up for a lot longer or is it becoming a hassle?

A: Trust me... I'm not going away any time soon ^^

andy: Alright, now I know this has not been the most serious of interviews, but it has been fun. Thanks a lot for taking your time.

VegettoEX: I love interviews :P It's been grand.
