Pojo's Dragonball - What If?

From: jtc5@aber.ac.uk [mailto:jtc5@aber.ac.uk]
What if Vegeta had been turned to stone by Dabura instead of Piccolo? (Part 1)

In this, the first of several Alternatives from me for the Dragonball Universe, I examine a critical moment in the Buu Saga. For the Z- Warriors and Goku, Majin Vegeta represented a deadly opponent, from a man they had believed had lost his evil ways forever. But what would had happened if another, equally once troubled hero had returned to his darker ways, a figure even more thought of to be redeemed to the light of his father’s wicked past? What if it had been the Sayian Prince Vegeta, and not the noble Namekian Piccolo, who had been turned to stone by Babidi’s minion Dabura?

######################################

As the Z-Warriors arrive with Kibito and the Supreme Kai to Babidi’s spaceship they are detected by the evil wizard, who orders Dabura to take care of them. With quick precision the Demon kills Kibito and then spits his deadly salvia down at Krillin and Vegeta. Piccolo, having avoided the substance himself, joins Goku, Gohan and the Supreme Kai in facing the array of Babidi’s minions within his underground ship.

Assuming the outcome of the Rock Paper Scissors game remains the same, Piccolo would fight Pui-Pui in the first stage of Babidi's Spaceship. Of course, Piccolo would not have trained at 400x Earth Gravity like Vegeta had but still, considering his time in training over the years for the Sayians, Frezia and the Androids, not to mention his array of incredible abilities that only a Namekian knows best, Piccolo would still be able to take out the villian, though the battle might be harder, perhaps giving Babidi some well-needed energy for Majin Buu. However, Babidi would not be aware of the impressive potential of Goku and Gohan as Sayians.

Following this, the battles of Goku vs Yakon and Gohan vs Dabura would be pretty much as they were, until the point Dabura normally senses Vegeta's darker side. But remember, Piccolo also has a troubled past, and with his impressive abilities in magic, Babidi resurfaces the evil within. Goku, Gohan and the Supreme Kai watch in horror as the struggling for the mind of Piccolo sees the original evil personality that the older Sayian remembers from his childhood – the terrifying King Piccolo.

Majin Piccolo is born as the fight for his mind is over-dominated by the knowledge via Babidi that he could become the strongest once more. Piccolo is certainly harder to control than Vegeta, but he lacks something that Vegeta holds dear, something that gives Babidi when he finally succeeds a terrifying advantage….

Of course, it is therefore fitting then, that just as two rivals are supposed to clash, the two to fight are master and student: Gohan would want to challenge Piccolo and bring his former instructor back to the light. Granted, Majin Piccolo would perform many wicked deeds, leaving the world once again fearful of his name as he is teleported back to the World Tournament and proceeds to unleash a wave of carnage on its inhabitants.
But unlike Vegeta, who's Sayian Pride prevented him from been fully controlled by Babidi, this does not apply to Piccolo.

Goku would not want his son to face Piccolo at first, but his Sayian blood tells him it is the right thing to do. Supreme Kai is also distraught, aware that Babidi will use the opportunity to gather more energy for Majin Buu, but Gohan is adamant. Goku requests that the battle take place elsewhere, and Babidi agrees. As the group vanishes from sight once more, Bulma is distraught she did not see Vegeta among them…

Thus, Goku and Supreme Kai prepare to face Babidi and Dabura. But Piccolo, again not bound by pride, attacks the Kai himself from an order by his Majin master. Gohan leaps in the way and begins a battle with his old friend, preventing Piccolo from chasing the two others.

Piccolo constantly mocks Gohan, telling him how much of a disappointment he is to him. Indeed the battle would be very similar to Gohan's fight with Cell, as the Namekian nudges him on to fight at his fullest. But Gohan refuses to give into the hope of getting the real Piccolo back as the pair trade waves of blows in their own special way.

Goku and the Supreme Kai enter the Buu Ball Chamber, all the while its energy increasing, though at a far lesser rate than it should be in another reality. Babidi, sensing he needs more time for Buu to reach full power, orders Dabura to attack the two heroes. But this is a mistake on his part - while weakened from their battles earlier, together Goku and Supreme Kai are an easy match for the Demon warrior. But they fail to see Babidi's plan - by two battles occurring at once, Buu gains twice as much power....

Meanwhile, Goten and Kid Trunks, having left the Tournament earlier after losing to Android 18 are flying towards the battlefield to see some action, and come across the statues of Krillin and Vegeta. Trying to see if they are real, Trunks nudges the one of his father, causing it to break
- an action that will have dire consequences.

Sensing the need for urgency, the already deceased Goku opts to sacrifice some of his life force energy to transform into a Super Sayian 3, killing Dabura in one punch in front of a terrified Babidi. But just as the wizard seems to think he will face the same fate, the meter for Majin Buu’s cocoon reaches its required level. Thanks to Piccolo, Gohan and Goku, Majin Buu will be free at any second! In desperation SSJ3 Goku fires a huge Kamehameha at the ball, hoping to stop any attempt by the Majin Monster to be released. Thinking he is outmatched Babidi takes the opportunity to retreat to a safer area as his spaceship is totally destroyed.

The battle between Majin Piccolo and Gohan has reached breaking point – once Gohan had clearly outstripped his former Namekian tutor, but it seems Babidi’s magic has unlocked untold reserves of power within him. Just as Piccolo seems ready to kill Gohan with a highly charged version of his Special Beam Cannon, Gohan cries out three words: “Minster Piccolo! STOP!”
All at once memories of training Gohan and the knowledge that he had been the first person Piccolo had ever truly cared for come flooding back, and the Namek Warrior falters. Just then the pair senses a terrifying new power – it seems Majin Buu has been resurrected after all!

Babidi spies a globule of pink mass which quickly forms into Majin Buu, and cackles as Goku and Supreme Kai emerge from the dusty remains of his spaceship. “You’re too late! Majin Buu is already free and is mine to control!” “Buuuuu!” At an order from his master the pink warrior flies into action and attacks the pair. Knowing how powerful a threat Majin Buu is to the world Goku once again transforms into a Super Sayian 3, but Babidi is confident Goku’s incredible power is enough for Majin Buu to handle. Goku knows he will need to conserve his power if he is to remain able to return to the Other World safely.

Further shocks are in store when mere minutes later, Krillin, Trunks and Goten show up. All are shocked at Goku’s immense power but have bad news – when Dabura was killed by Goku this meant Vegeta died also. And it isn’t a pretty sight… The pair of Super Sayian kids leap to Goku and Supreme Kai’s aid as they rush Majin Buu. But the childish Majin Warrior soon tosses them aside in favour of facing Goku. Just then Gohan and Majin Piccolo show up.

The Namekian has managed to regain his composure and his heroic nature and the M on his forehead vanishes. Enraged that Piccolo has betrayed him, Babidi orders that Majin Buu should kill all of their enemies. But Majin Buu is already prone to disobeying Babidi after fighting Goku, who he doesn’t want to kill ‘because hes really strong. Buu like fighting him!’.

Goku tells Piccolo of his energy problem and the Namekian understands.
With Goku already injured after his big battle with Majin Buu its now up to Piccolo and Gohan to face him together with Supreme Kai. But even with Piccolo’s new increased powers, the trio do little better than Goku had on his own. In a devastating attack Piccolo unleashes a huge Hellzone Grenade on Buu which seems to do the trick. But Majin Buu quickly regenerates, loses interest in the Z-Warriors and flies off in the direction of West City to get candy and chocolate with Babidi. Although the group have managed to fend off Buu’s urges for destruction it has cost Goku most of his reserves of power – he has just half an hour before he must return to the Other World…

help from the Supreme Kai and the Z-Sword!
