Pojo's Dragonball - What If? What if we realized some truths about DBZ? From: Lawrence (Formerly DarthNaps) What if we realized some truths about DBZ? There are a few moments in DBZ that made me scratch my head a little longer than others, which forced me to come to some revelation about what actually went down. 1) Guru’s unlocking of hidden powers – This was something that always bugged me seeing how I never felt that this event had any impact on either Krillin or Gohan, at least, neither of them showed it. Sure, you may say, “Look at what Gohan did to Frieza for a short time,” but if we look forward to Cell Games when Gohan explains his hidden power to Cell, he makes no mention of Guru’s power boost. Truth = Guru really did nothing but put on a fancy light show before he died; it was all a psychological boost, a mind game and it made them feel good. 2) The strength of Namekians – Again, something else that never sat well with me, the fact that these aliens could be so powerful to create these things called dragonballs that could summon a being that could grant you anything you wanted, YET, be incredible weaklings in battle. None seem to personify this paradox more so than Dende: can’t throw a punch but is a walking Senzu bean. . . huh? How? Yes, there’s Piccolo, who is a MAJOR contributor in combat (vs. Raditz, vs. Frieza, vs. Android 17) but he has also benefited from some significant power boosts independent of his Namekian heritage: King Kai training, Nail fusion and Kame fusion. Truth = flaw in logic; Namekians can make the impossible possible and can’t use this energy to become stronger. 3) The Yardrats. . . period! – HUH!? Goku learns what is arguably the most important single technique next to the Kamehameha and Solar Flare from these pink dudes who are never shown using this technique themselves. How do they do instant transmission? If weaklings can do this why can’t Goku teach it to his team on Earth? I may be nit-picking here, but I want to learn a little bit more about this encounter other than “They had these weird clothes,” and “They were really fast.” Truth = sloppy writing; some justification had to be made for Goku’s tardy return to Earth and a random alien encounter does so quickly. 4) Majin Buu’s regeneration – We understand Cell’s regeneration because every cell in his body has “a life of it’s own” thus being able to completely reconstruct from a mitochondria, but Buu. . . well he’s pink, and does the same thing. Truth = lack of creativity. How do you follow up a villain of Cell’s capacity? Easy, make the same villain but stronger. 5) Supreme Kai’s stupidity – So he ranks above the Grand Kai, but somehow doesn’t know the true power potential of the Z Warriors (Goku, Gohan and Vegeta), can’t find Bibidi on his own and somehow manages to make Krillin look useful on his worst day. Truth = just a bad character and inferior plot. I mean come on, Cell Saga was the climax of DBZ and what better way to end than on top? Lawrence (Formerly DarthNaps)
