That Guy That
Plays DreamBlade |
GLAIVE SCORPION
Ok so we wrap up the week with in my opinion,
the best Hiveling piece to date. Of course,
there is gonna be a substantial boost to
Hiveling in the next set due January. Glaive
Scorpion's only pals so far are Crystalis
Spinner, Hive Pincher, and Night Queen. And so
far, this guy rests on top. As an 8 drop, he is
a 4 - 7/10. Not too bad, as his stats just beat
out Voodoo. However, can this guy knock out the
other 3 Fear 8 drops that commonly see play?
Pretty darn close in my mind. Now for effects,
he starts off as a big Jack of Blades, packing a
single blade Expel. Expel is already a great
ability, but it is somewhat redundant to have it
on your 5, 6, and 11 drop of choice. Well here
is the added super-bonus. Venom 4. Ohh boy!! I
knew a few people wanting to try and make Venom
warbands once they saw this guy, and I don't see
why not. Venom 4 assigns a special type of
damage to the enemy creatures. If there is Venom
on him equal to or greater than its cost, then
it dies. So to sum this up, Glaive can kill any
character with a cost of 4 or lower for a single
blade. Rack up the Venom with Bad Kitty or Soul
Serpent to kill the bigger guys in exchange for
blades. So does he beat Voodoo? Sultan? Reaper?
Grab one and find out...you may like the results
if Warcharms get to you alot.
Constructed - 4/5 - Very solid piece, and he
will see top table play, especially when the
next set is Constructed legal.
Sealed - 4/5 - Little reason not to use this
piece if you get hold of it. You may pass it up
if Fear isn't what you end up favoring, as he
comes kind of short as a 9 drop, and low
characters won't be on the table as much when he
gets out.
Artwork - 4/5 - What do you expect. Its a
scorpion...

Glaive Scorpion
Tis the season, and we start the holidays off
with.... a bug. A fricking bug.
-_-
Oh alright, I grant you, it's a big bug (or
arachnid, if you MUST nitpick, though it does
seem to be missing a few legs). It's a big bug
that could probably jab its stinger through
someone's chest, and probably eat them off of
it. But it's still a frickin bug. It's not even
the biggest Hiveling out there, with both Power
and Life going to Chrysalis Spinner and beating
it on Defense by ONE point. Same converted cost
even. Oy.
Expel is always nice, but getting a bit boring
because it's like every Fear creature and it's
misbegotten mother has it... but I guess that's
ok BECAUSE it is always nice. Venom 4 is the
biggest Venom out there, but it still doesn't do
that much. For 8 Spawn points, you're playing
with the big boys now man, and you gotta keep
up. Expel only brings you to the lower cusp of
playability, and frankly, I'd prefer Thunder
Sultan, or, most definitely, FLESHLESS REAPER.
For it's cost, the only thing I'd pick Glaive
Scorpion before is Wayward Spiker... because
Follower isn't that good for 4 power at that
price.
Now, I guess, with Chrysotic Plague on the
(distant) horizon, I might be changing my tune
here. Word on the street is, Venom will see more
support, and there'll be a Channel unique
(likely Queen Chrysota, I imagine) that will
make this guy a point or three cheaper, which
will certainly be nice. If I payed 6, or even 7,
4 power becomes much more likeable. Also, since
everything will probably be getting stung with
Venom, I imagine plenty of things will be dying.
Until that day comes though, Glaive Scorpion is
only good for scaring people with arachnophobia.
Unless that's only good for spiders, in which
case... whatever.
Constructed: 2.5/5 Just... meh. Fleshless
Reaper, man, or Chrysalis Spinner... just use
those.
Limited: 3.5/5 You didn't get anything else?
Really? Alright, fine, he's a fair bit better
here.
