GENT
Ok woohoo randomness week. Except not. This week
is a more of killer effect week. Starting off
with probably the best Stitched character at our
disposal. Gent is a decent stated Madness piece
that costs 5 for 3 - 3/7. His effect is one not
put in the base set, and its called Edgemaster.
For a spawn cost of 2 in a scoring cell, you can
activate a single blade ability that doesn't
have to deal with combat. So no Ferocity or
Crits, but movement abilites, Warpstrikes, and
even the powerful Whisper Gambit ( Cyclopean
Sprite ) are far game. Seems pretty useful, but
as with many Madness pieces, they get disrupted
soo much they barely reach the center to fight
unless they are accompanied by alot of movement.
The reward for doing so is incredible however.
Looking for uses? I'm splashing one of these in
a Janus band I am testing before CP comes out
mid January. Within my warband, it can trigger
advance, skirmish and skirmish 2, and the most
powerful, Janus Warpstrike. At full potential,
this can mean a 10 power attack for a cost of
two during my spawn phase. Most of the time, I
can only use it for half as much however. Still,
look through your minis' blade abilities. I'm
sure one might be stronger with the help of
Gent. Hell, it worked twice with Mangler to get
rid of all my opponent's 5 or less drops from
their reserves in a Sealed game.
Constructed - 3.5/5- It has potential, but the
trouble comes with getting this, plus the useful
blade effect together in a scoring cell long
enough to live until the next spawn phase.
Sealed - 3/5 - Less options for good blade
effects, and less optimal ways to protect him.
Artwork - 4/5 - Futuristic Abraham

Gent
Is it Gent with the G as in "got" or a G as in
"Gee"? Oh well, whatever, that's not what this
review is about. What we have here is a very
nifty li'l Stitched member that's probably going
to enjoy being splashed in anywhere.
5M nets you a 3 3|7 uncommon in Gent (however
it's pronounced), which does mean it has a fair
ammount of competition. Relentless Eviscerator
is a nice Regenerating beatstick, while Ego
Cannibal can do some really nifty things if it's
going against the right enemies. Cyclopean
Sprite is a must have thanks to Whisper Gambit,
and we all know how popular she is... so yeah,
Gent has some competition. Statwise though, he's
got it on power, but D&L are a leeettle bit
lower than some might like.
Ability though, his ability is kickass.
Edgemaker is a VERY cool ability. Auto-activate
any non-combat only blade ability can do a heck
of a lot of stuff. Do not that only abilities
that work during combat are nerfed here,
abilities like Warpstrike are fine. Either way,
Whisper Gambit, Advance, Skirmish, Scare, Expel,
Venom, Lure, Darkbringer's Terrify, Mangler's
Mindstrike, Daze, and Battle Energize are the
ones I can think of, and I am sure there will
only be more coming out of the woodwork in
upcoming sets. Too bad he can't also forcefully
activate an opponent's negative blade ability,
but I guess there aren't too many competitive
bands that use much of those anyway; it would
have just been icing on the cake.
Of course, you can still use those blade
abilities once combat kicks in. More fer yer
money, man.
He does have a few other problems though:
Edgemaker only works on a scoring cell, and it
only works with a LOCAL ALLY'S blade ability.
That's quite the downer. The 2 Spawn point cost
will also have you doing a bit of thinking,
depending on how your rolls go. If it was any
two of the three, he'd be utterly broken, but
all three stipulations kinda water him down a
lot more than I'd like. His stats are also not
what I would want in a scoring cell, but I guess
if he's moving with enough buddies, he'll be
alright.
All in all, Gent is a very nifty offence unto
God, and he's got THE best hat I've ever seen on
ANYWHERE. That's worth a few points right there.
Just a few though.
Constructed: 3/5 You won't be playing him if you
don't have the strategy to utilize him. I'd do
some playtesting to test that strategy first
though. Not something I would bring to a 1K on a
whim.
Limited: 3/5 You may not have a choice, not if
you're pulling straight Baxar's War, and you can
indeed do worse. The requirements are a major
drag though.
