Pojo's GenCon 2006 Dreamblade Report
I know that not everyone can attend GenCon, so I took a few photos and took a few notes about this new Dreamblade miniatures game from Wizards of the Coast.
From what I gather, these figures represent characters that appear in your dreams. I don't know what most people dream about, but my dreams contain life-size versions of Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton & Anna Kournikova. To each his own I guess.
Each person creates a team of 16 figures. In Dreamblade, your team is called a "war band". You build a war band and compete against the other player. You use your little monsters and a set of Dreamblade dice and wage a war against your competitor on the Dreamblade field until someone emerges victorious. I won't get into the details here. You can play a demo at WotC's site for that.
A Starter set retails for $29.99 and contains the playing field, the rules you need, the dice you need and 16 minis to get you going. In a starter set you will get one rare, 3 uncommons and 12 commons.
A Booster Set retails for $14.99 and contains 7 minis: 1 rare, 2 uncommons and 4 commons.
There are 96 minis in this first set. When you build your War Band, you can have 3 copies of a mini, but some minis are unique allowing you to only have 1. There are 4 colors in this, and building a war band of only 1-2 colors appears ideal to me, as it makes future monsters a bit cheaper to bring out.
On Saturday of GenCon, Wizards of the Coast had a $20,000 Dreamblade Tournament. Anyone there was eligible to enter. You could actually enter the tourney for less than the value of the product you received, which was pretty cool! Here are a few more photos I snapped of Dreamblade at GenCon:
