Dress Down is inspired by Humility, from Tempest, with an implementation that is simpler in certain ways. It avoids a lot of the rules confusion that comes with Humility’s sitting in play and interacting with things that arrived later (meaning you might have to think about things like timestamps and such). But in other ways, it has just as many layers as that famous enchantment. Some of those layers emerge from a deceptively simple consideration, like removing basic keywords from creatures: if your opponent’s Bloodbraid Elf no longer has haste, she can’t attack your planeswalker until next turn. And it’s depressing news for anybody who’s relying on a card like Eidolon of Rhetoric to prevent you from doing something ridiculous – as long as you can do it in that one turn.

As far as “silver bullets” go, Dress Down is a pretty solid one, able to stymie potentially devastating effects for the rest of a turn; it only lasts to turn’s end, but cantripping and being a static effect both do wonders for its efficacy and flexibility. It’s the kind of card that can turn a game around if you play it at the right time (to, say, strip abilities from attackers to force weird trades), though it has narrow windows for it to really work its magic.
