Fish
& Chips
Fish
Hey everyone! Fish here checking out Bolzard Dragon. Wow, the effect seems good but only 1 card to the graveyard. That could delay your opponents big creatures and spells for one turn, and in a red deck, one turn could be all you need. Looking at it by itself though, it's low power means that it could fall to Szubs Kin, Twilight Guardian and other light blockers, meaning one card destroyed would be all you ever get out of Bolzard. If you don't see blockers, however, Bolzard can still be destroyed by creatures unless your running a fire /light deck. Stick with Engineer Kipo.

Pros: 1 card each time it attacks, perfect compliment to red rush decks.

Cons: being rather weak, you'd most likely get only 1 card destroyed by his
effect.

Constructed: 3.5/5 Good, but even better with water or light.
Limited: 3.5/5 There could be less chance of it being destroyed, but don't count
on it.

Chips
Hey everyone! this is Chips with a review of Bolzard Dragon.

This card is good for mana destruction decks because it doesn't have to break a
shield to destroy a mana card which makes it invaluable if your opponent can't
destroy this card fast enough any card that they play is going to get discarded
on your next turn when you attack with this card. This card's lower power amount
makes it easily defeatable by the some blockers (Dia Nork Moonlight Guardian,
Szubs Kin Twilight Guardian, Gran Gure, Space Guardian) to name a few. This card
is better in a fire/light stall deck because you will have a lot of blockers
meaning Bolzard will not be destroyed by anything other than blockers or spells
like Terror Pit.

The Pros: Destroys only opponent's mana, doesn't have to break a shield

The Cons: lower power rating, probably only destroy 1 card with Bolzard

Constructed:4/5 This card is a lot better in a water/fire or light/fire
Limited:4.5/5 Chances are it will not be destroyed as easily

Cecillbill BOLZARD DRAGON
Dragons are cool. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Shivans, Blues Eyes, and
Bolshacks commanded respect, fear, love and hate from many players in their
heyday. While the scary power associated with those dragons is not Bolzard
Dragon's claim to fame, Bolzard still packs a fireball that players should
not underestimate.

PROS:
For humans water is life. We're something like 60% water. We're walking
aquariums. For Duel Masters' players mana is life. Without mana, you can't
bring anything to the pinic table. Bolzard Dragon's makes it hard for your
opponent to maintain enough mana for plays, especially when used in
conjunction with other mana destruction cards. For 6 mana you get a 5000
creature that destroys 1 of your opponent's mana each and every time it
attacks. Added bonus--you get to choose which mana gets fried. Bolzard's
effect kicks in regardless if it hits a shield, a creature or is blocked
when it attacks. If Bolzard survives his summoning sickness, he's knocking
away mana. If your opponent has out only 1 mana for a key civ like Darkness,
send Bolzard flying at him to remove that 1 Darkness mana. Run Elf-X for the
chance to drop multiples of Bolzard down for cheap. Two of these guys
attacking for just one turn is fun. Imagine casting Mana Crisis then
attacking with 2 Bolzards. Your opponent's down 3 mana in one turn. Better
yet, how about casting Mana Crisis, ramming Bombersaur into a bigger
creature, and then attacking with 2 Bolzards. That's 5 of your opponent's
mana shot down in one turn! Hey, it could happen.... ; )

CONS:
Like a Double breaker, Bolzard's effect has him joining the game with a huge
bullseye on its head. 5000 power for 6 mana with summoning sickness...Death
Smoke anyone? Also, so many 5-7 drop creatures, especially blockers, can
knock his mana destructive tendencies down to a one time shot. 5000 power
mid game is not too hard to manage when the creature has summoning sickness
the turn its dropped. Bolzard's 5000 power for 6 mana limits his playability
in other deck types.

OVERALL IMPRESSION:
As nifty as Mana Destruction is in Duel Masters, the strategy is in its
infancy. Some gamers aren't able to play/build the deck in a manner that
overcomes its self-inflicting mana rob. Its also a slow moving deck that can
have a hard time with blockers and defending itself should the mana
destruction not come at key times. Despite some drawbacks of the deck type,
Bolzard Dragon is a great mid game creature for Mana Destruction. Drop him
in multiples and just watch as your opponent's mana disappears. As with
other mana destroyers, Bolzard's not an easy fit for most other decks. For
Mana Destruction to work effectively you have to keep pounding at an
opponent's mana in many different ways.

FORMAT RATINGS:
Constructed: 3/5. Bolzard is best suited for a Mana Destruction deck. It can
be run in other decks, but without the support of other mana destruction
cards Bolzard's effect will have diminished impact and its 5000 power for 6
mana will seem expensive for most players sticking to 40 card decks.

Limited: 3.5/5. Can be a solid hitter that strips away your opponent's
much-needed mana. Bolzard can wreck ship here in almost any deck running
Fire because its much harder to compensate for mana loss.

Gordon
Kane
Bolzard Dragon - I actually like this card better than Bolshack. Bolzard doesn't begin to shine until mid-game, and if the deck is built to do a little damage to the opponent's mana pool, a Mana Crisis combo'd with a Bolzard attack can't put an opponent in a world of hurt (with less mana available to cast a solution to the Bolzard problem). Bolzard is still a little random -- but a deck running Nature can often Bronze Arm Tribe or Elf X out a Bolzard by Turn 5, which causes the opponent to drop a mana each turn just to stay level as Bolzard burns away a card when it declares the attack. Bolzard is seeing play in some tournament decks, but I think it'll take a few additional supporting cards before we see more of this big red dragon.

Constructed 2.5 / 5
Limited 2 / 5

Knives101 Bolzard Dragon

This card works well in Fire/Nature decks. There's a combo that can allow you to put this card into play on the fourth turn. The combo has to do with Poisonous Mushroom, and Pangea's Song. During the second turn of the game you use Mushroom, and Song in conjunction to gain three mana in one turn. Doing so allows you to put Bolzard into play during the fourth turn of the game. Unfortunately there are plenty of cheap cards out there that can deal with him, before he starts to lock your mana down. Spiral Gate, Death Smoke, Dia Nork, and many other cards can take him down before your opponent locks your mana down.

Final Rating: 3

Limited: 1 High cost cards are rare. So they don't show up in draft too much. This means that Bolzard is less useful.
