Cosmic Nebula

Type: Evolution

Civilization: Water

Race: Cyber Virus

Mana Cost: Five (5)

Rules Text:

Evolution - Put on one of your Cyber Viruses.
Whenever you draw the card at the start of your turn, you may draw an extra card.

Flavor Text:

"Time is circular. Yesterday is tomorrow. Last month is a week from Thursday. I have a headache." –Shtra

Power: 3,000

Rarity: Super Rare

Set: Thundercharge of Ultra Destruction

Power/Cost: I admit to doing a double-take at his attack power. Come on WotC, the five mana cost is fairly average for an evolution, but only 3k power?! Cosmic Nebula is the weakest evo out there, tied with Armored Cannon Balbaro...that should be all you need to know.

Civilization/Race: This category becomes more important for the reviews of Evolution creatures. Without solid bait to evolve from, the evolution is significantly weakened. Cosmic Nebula hails from the Cyber Virus race. There are currently eight different Cyber Viruses, with Marine Flower and Candy Drop as the best. Stained Glass and Steam Star could suffice as additional options if you’re desperate. The draw power is no surprise since Nebula is also from the Water civilization. Overall the Cyber Lords are probably the second most powerful Water line.

Effects: Cosmic Nebula’s ability takes place over time. The longer it stays alive, the more of an advantage you gain. But don’t expect Nebula to stick around for long with all the creature removal in todays metagame. Your opponent can use any number of destruction effects to take Nebula down. The weak power really hurts here because it fits right into slot where Searing Wave and Silphy still hit. So sure the extra card every turn is nice, but how reliable is Nebula’s ability? For just one more mana you could summon his brother, Astral Warper, who provides three cards immediately. There’s no contest.

Limited: 2/5

Curious Eye is the only available Cyber Virus in a Thundercharge-strait draft. Don’t even consider Nebula unless you pull at least two of the proper bait first.

Constructed: 3 /5

Cosmic Nebula is nothing more than average when everything is considered. The mediocre power and lack of Double breaker really leaves too much to be desired.

Wow, that's an interesting card. It would be fun to have 4 of these out and draw 5 cards each turn. Anyway, there are several okay cards to use as bait for this. I would suggest marine flower. I thought this card cost 6 but, apparently it isn't. That will make its ratings better. Who doesn't like drawing extra cards? Anyone? The only time this would be a "bad" effect would be when your deck is low but, the effect is optional. I believe that nebula is best in a mono water built around him and maybe including merfolk wouldn't be a bad idea either ;-). You could easily have over 10 cards in hand with a deck like that.

constructed: (built around him) 5/5

limited: 2/5 cause of evo bait

Hmmm.......Let's see what I have to say about this creature.

Cost to Power Ratio (which usually I always say wrong LOL): 5 for 3000.. Now that isn't actually that bad considering it is a evolution but when I go for evolutions I like that they have better Cost to Power Ratio than regular creatures. However if you know that a creature has a less than neutral attack,(attack is not even with cost) then you know that it may have a pretty good or decent effect.

Type/Civilization: Cyber Virus/Water.. Water is a good race but Cyber Viruses haven't had a evo yet so they aren't as advance as other types, such as Liquid People who are arguably the best type for water and possibly in the game. Now If I would use this evo the other cyber viruses that I would run would be, Steam Star, Marine Flower and Candy Drop. All of the other Cyber viruses aren't that great in my eyes.

Effect: Now like I have stated before, hand advantage is really necessary in this game and most others that I know about. Sometimes drawing one card isn't enough and this allows you to draw an extra card. Not too bad if you ask me but I really don't know if this would stay alive that long for its effect to actually deeply impact the game. It is vulnerable to majorly played spells like Natural Snare and Terror Pit. I really wouldn't run this in the decks that I run. Just my opinion and I respect all others opinions of how they like/dislike it x)

Rating:
Constructed - 2.5/5 For reasons stated above

Limited - 1/5 If you looked at the set, the only thing that this could evolve from is one cyber virus, a 3 -1000 creature that has an effect that when it attacks you can look at an opponents shield and then put it back where it was. Not that great

Okay well that is all for now. You can contact me at danieljs@bellsouth.net for MSN or e-mail. Good luck this weekend and happy dueling. Don't get aggravated in a tournament if something happens. Instead, think confidently. Thanks to Jae Love for pointing that out in his article this week.

Until Monday,
Horus
