Today, we have to review a spell card
of our choice. Much like Wednesday, we either pick
our favorite spell or the one I think is the most
useless.
I did useless last time, so I’ll go
favorite this time. This review probably should have
been favorite spell besides Terror Pit, natural
Snare, and Holy Awe, but what can you do?
I’ll go with my next favorite spell
card….That being critical blade.
Critical Blade
Civilization: Darkness
Type: Spell
Mana Cost: 2
Ability: Destroy one blocker on your
opponent’s side of the field
Shield Trigger
The Rundown
Why, why does the new set threaten
this card???
For those who don’t know what I’m
talking about, there’s a new card coming out in
Stomp-a-trons that does the same thing, only it has
limitations. It’s called Comet Missile, it’s also a
shield trigger, Fire-Civ, and destroys a blocker
6000 or less...and it costs only 1 mana.
But we’re not talking about that
today, we got Critical Blade, the card who’s gone
through some hard times ever since Evo-Crushinators.
The Positive Side
There really isn’t much to say about
this card. It’s pretty much explains for itself.
It’s cheap. Because of this, combos
are pretty easy to pull of with this guy.
It costs only 2. The DFBC that you
played last turn is under no threat of a blocker.
Screw you Marine Flower…
It’s a shield trigger. Your opponent
ready to attack and has one of those La Byle out on
the field. He hits you and…you get the critical and
kill the blocker and destroy him next turn while
your opponent goes to the corner and crawls in the
fetal position rocking back and forth dreaming of
better days…
That’s really wraps it up. Everything
good about the card you probably already know.
The Negative Side
There are bad things to this
card…just not that many.
One of them is that it only kills
blockers. What if you face a red/green deck? Then
this card is about as useful to you as 1 pronged
fork…
The only other problem with the card
is that it’s gonna get major competition from Comet
Missile. The new card is one cheaper and destroys
the majority of blocker in the game, except for the
major blockers like Gran Gure and Ladia Bale. How
will our Critical Blade live up to this. It’s like
watching your child play football against the New
England Patriots…I assume…
Finally, here’s “what else could you
use?”
- Comet Missile-when it comes out.
- writhing Bone Ghoul
- 2 Marrow Ooze
There isn’t too much else to play. I
say run it for the time being
The Limited Side
There aren’t many blockers in
limited, or blockers that hold a major threat.
However, for those people who do draft those
blockers, always take a couple of these just in
case. These cards are really decent in limited. I
would draft them, just not before the 3rd
pick. But do take the card. It should help you,
since there are blockers out there.
The Recap
Here’s the + and – again
Pluses
+ Kills Blockers
+ Cheap
+ Shield Trigger
+ Combo Potential
Minuses
- Not every deck has blockers
- Comet Missile poses a huge
threat to the use of this card
- There not being more bad things
about this card
Constructed- 4/5-
The card helps with those blockers in ways you can’t
imagine.
Limited-
3.5/5- Still strong in limited. Just less
blockers probably
Art- 3/5-
That guy needs anger management…or
video games…
