The
Shockwaves of the Shattered Rainbow set features a
new archetype of gameplay, which allows us to flip
between the cards in our hand and the cards in our
mana zone. Hurricane Crawler is one of the
highlights because it doesn’t force you to place the
cards in your mana zone tapped. Let’s take a look at
the stats.
Hurricane Crawler
Cost: 5
Race: Earth Eater
Civilization: Water
Rules Text:
When you put this creature into the battle zone, put
all the cards from your hand into your mana zone.
Then put that many cards from your mana zone into
your hand.
Flavor Text:
Its merest movement changes the landscape. Its
smallest step crushes mountains.
Power: 4,000
Let’s first take a look at Hurricane Crawler’s
power… Having 4,000 power for 5 mana is pretty
typical for the Water Civilization, since water
duelists rely on tricks and field manipulation. As a
matter of fact, when considering this creature’s
potential it’s a miracle that it was given a beefy
4000. The last notable Water Civ creature with this
ratio is Illusionary Merfolk.
The greatest thing about this creature’s effect is
the fact that you put cards into your mana zone
without tapping them. This can result in some sick
combos. When building a deck based around this guy,
one of the hardest parts will be the fact that in
some ways you have to relearn how you play the game.
You need to be mindful of the cards you play in your
mana zone and the cards that you keep in your hand.
After all, your mana zone is what you’ll have in
your hand some time after turn 5. This card makes it
acceptable to drop Corile in the mana zone. Yay!
You also have to get used to a different style of
play. Instead of placing one mana in your mana zone
every turn you might want to hold on to each card
after turn 5. If you can draw a big hand, then when
you play this card you can dig out all of the cards
you were saving in your mana zone and play them
right away. You also get your chargers back, which
is good news for Slash Charger spammers such as
myself :D (and it’s something that Phal cannot do).
On top of that you get a nice 4000 creature for
virtually no cost
The Good: You get a virtually free 4000 attack
creature and you can set up multiple mind-numbing
combos with its effect. Slash Charger comes back to
cause more pain and your opponent will have a
difficult time understanding your play style.
The Bad: This strategy might be a little slow vs.
rush decks… then again you’re pretty much storing
the slower cards in your mana zone for future use.
It therefore might make it an advantage.
The Ugly: Try topdecking this card.
Constructed Rating: 3.5/5 - There is so much
potential behind this card. You just need patience
and determination in order to understand the play
style. Just think of how fun much it would be to
summon a Corile and a free fattie on the same turn.
Topdecking this card is what kept it from getting a
rating of 4.
Limited Rating: 2/5 – The power is good for limited
play but you might find yourself without mana after
playing this creature.
I hope you enjoyed the review

"Hurricane
Crawler"
Heya all, Im more commonly known as NBK/Valkier/Geminix
on forums but for my card reviews, I'm going by the
name of ~Zephyr~, so hope thats ok with everyone. Im
one of the main UK players online here! So without
further ado, lets start off with one of Water Super
Rares from the newest set, Shockwaves of the
Shattered Rainbow, "Hurricane Crawler".
Name: Hurricane Crawler
Cost: 5
Race: Earth Eater
Civilization: Water
Type: Creature
Rules Text:
When you put this creature into the battle zone, put
all the cards from your hand into your mana zone.
Then put that many cards from your mana zone into
your hand.
Flavor Text:
Its merest movement changes the landscape. Its
smallest step crushes mountains.
Power: 4,000
Mana Number: 1
Artist: Akifumi Yamamoto
Rarity: S
Collector Number: S3
Let's break it down shall we.....
Cost & Power: For 5 mana, 4000 power ain't a bad
cost to power ratio and in many cases it will be
able to do some sort of damage to the majority of
creatures on the field and most blockers. Not bad
but not great either!
Race: Earth Eater isn't the best race to use in
decks, especially since it has no evolutions to its
name, but it has got a couisin in Thrash Crawler
that has blown into most of the top tier decks
around both the US & UK. For this card though in
particular, race isn't important.
Effect: This card's effect is quite nice in that it
allows you to switch in cards from your hand to your
mana zone that might not be as useful at that moment
in time in the duel and then switch cards out of the
mana zone into your hand that might actually prove
useful. Very useful when stuck with useless cards in
the hand in the late game, and it helps with
previous planning of the mana zone and trust in what
to put in the mana zone at the right time.
Availability: Since its a super rare, not the
easiest card to get your hands on it. However, since
its effect will be seen as "average" at least, most
lower level duelists will avoid it, but some
higher-level duelists with some creativity & skill
could use this card and abuse its effect properly.
Overall, its a decent card and could see some use in
decks that can manage to arrange their mana in a way
so that when it comes to the worst in duels with a
bad hand, Hurricane Crawler can be summoned and a
new hand can be sorted out for the appropriate play.
Otherwise, the majority of duelists will avoid this
card. Nice suprise inclusion in a deck though!
Limited Play: 2/5 - Not the best in Limited due to
the limited availability of decent cards.
Constructed Play: 3/5 - As said before, majority of
duelists will give this a miss but the more talented
duelists with some creativity and good deck-building
skills with abuse his effect to their advantage.
~Zephyr~'s Score: 3/5
If anyone wants to discuss anything that I have
mentioned in this COTD, feel free to email me @ -

friendly chat & discussion. Also available on Msn &
for duels on DMC v2.0!
Until the next COTD!

would end up losing it.
that's not bad. not bad at all. Hail Barkwip!

This card has some cool artwork.
Hurricane Crawler is from the latest set, Shockwaves
Of The Shattered Rainbow, and is a new type of
creature, Earth Eater. Its effect is interesting,
Your mana is sent to your hand, and then you place
that many cards from your
hand into your mana zone. In my opinion, this card
has good power to mana ratio, 5:4000. There are some
good Points and bad points about this card. (If you
want to skip down the pros and cons, feel free to do
so) A good point is that you can basically choose
your hand, put Terror Pit, some monsters, and you
got your hand made right there. Now for the bad, and
there's some. Your opponent going to know your hand,
what if you don't have enough hand to compensate for
mana? Then the cards you just got will go back.
Pros:
Good power to mana ratio.
Replenishes your hand.
Allows you to put that shield trigger in your hand
into your mana zone for mana nexus.
Cons:
Opponent knows what's in your hand.
Your new cards from your mana zone might go back to
the mana zone.
Art: 4/5 He looks hungry
Overall Rating: 3/5
See ya guys, or girls, next time.

Well Let me
start off by saying a big hello to everyone reading
this and that i am excited to say this is my first
card of the day of many.
Ok lets take a look at Hurricane Crawler.
Name: Hurricane Crawler
Cost: 5
Race: Earth Eater
Civilization: Water
Type: Creature
Rules Text:
When you put this creature into the battle zone, put
all the cards from your hand into your mana zone.
Then put that many cards from your mana zone into
your hand.
Flavor Text:
Its merest movement changes the landscape. Its
smallest step crushes mountains.
Power: 4,000
Mana Number: 1
Artist: Akifumi Yamamoto
Rarity: S
Collector Number: S3
Cost: This guy costs five. Turn five especially with
blue i like dropping a Corile or a Hopeless Vortex
on the board but a big blocker to on your side of
the board is ok in it's on right.
Race: Earth Eater, can't really think of any major
support for this particular race at the moment, But
sometimes a creature's effect can be the only
support it needs.
Civilization: He is a member of the water family.
The civilization of water is focused on a fews of
things. One is card drawing, two is bounce, and last
but not least manipulation. This guy falls into the
last catagory but more on that alittle later.
Type: Creature nuff said.
Effect: This guy's effect states "When you put this
creature into the battle zone, put all the cards
from your hand into your mana zone. Then put that
many cards from your mana zone into your hand." I am
not total sold on this guy. This is Thrash Crawler
on a much larger scale, But unlike Thrash Crawler he
come a turn later and he's weaker. On the other hand
you never have to worry about loosing high to cast
cards early in the duel to mana when you can manage
your and still drop this guy later in the game to
retrieve them.
Power: 4000, 5 for a 4000 blocker with a not so
grand effect is below average for a blocker. When
most blockers in the game are under casted by a cost
to power ratio.
Mana: He produces one blue mana.
Rarity: He is a super rare which mean you might have
to buy a few packs to get one if you want one, But
on the other hand i have pulled Ten Xeno Mantis.

Hi everybody! Balthazar is here to do his first CotD
for pojo. My first CotD
will be about one of the SotSR super rares, more
exactly Hurricane Crawler.
Let’s go on with the review;
Cost: To summon him, you have to pay 5 mana for a
4000 body. Not much to
applause for. Its quiet obvious that you are going
to play him for his
effect, but are it worth it?
Race & Civ: Earth Eaters don't got much of support
for thier kinds. No evos
nor directly support cards for Earth Eaters are to
be found. The water civ.
is all about get and keep control in the duel, and
this cards is no
exception.
Effect: The effect is quite special, and it's the
effect that makes it (kind
of) playable. "When you put this creature into the
battle zone, put all the
cards from your hand into your mana zone. Then put
that many cards from your
mana zone into your hand." It can be great late game
when you just
"streamed" and ended up with a squito and a Volcano
Charger on hand, and
there far more better goodies in the mana zone. Play
him, and you can
exchange your not so wanted cards on hand against...
what ever late game
über-card you are playing with. The whole idea with
Hurricane Crawler (I
think) is about creating a alternative to the famous
card of control decks,
the Thrash Crawler. Still I think Thrash Crawler is
a better card, so I
would stick with ol' Thrashy.
Pros:
Swap your CIH for cards in the mana zone. (With
Thrash, you are only able to
retrieve a single card.)
Nice (at least in control decks) to have a 4000 body
on the field that can
attack.
Cons:
Power ratio; 5 for 4000 is not so nice
Hurricane Crawler can tend to get stuck in hand.
(Example: On hand turn 4-5:
1x Hurricane Crawler and 1x Apocalypse Vise. See my
problem?)
You might not always (when you have him in hand)
play him, because you got
better CIH than in the mana zone.
As my last 2 cons; he can easily turn into mana
fodder.
Being a super rare.
Constructed: 2.5/5 (He can be a nice addition to
Thrash Crawler in a control
deck, but he is not good enough to replace Thrash.)
Limited: 1.5/5 (There are far more better card to
play with in limited)
