Balthazar
(Bernhard) is back for another review!
Name: Tanzanyte, the Awakener
Cost: 7
Race: Spirit Quartz
Civilization: Water/Darkness
Type: Creature
Rules Text:
(This creature is put into your mana zone tapped.)
Double breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Instead of having this creature attack, you may tap
it to use its ability.
Choose a creature in your graveyard. Return all
creatures that have that
name from your graveyard to your hand.
Power: 9,000
Mana Number: 1
Cost: Fairly good mana/power ratio, 7 for 9000 and
double breaker and good
effect. Looks good from here...
Race: Spirit Quartz is a new race first seen in the
new Shockwaves set. All
of them is rainbow creature and today they haven't
got any support. In DM-11
there will be a 2 mana search spell for rainbow
creatures and in DM-13 there
will come a spirit Quartz evolution.
Effect: First of all, Tanzanyte gots double breaker
effect. Good. And
further on, it got a brand new tap effect. If you
tap Tanzanyte, you can
ressurect up to 4 creature in your graveyard at the
same time. It's a pity
that you can only res one type of card, instead of a
race... If it would be
a race ressurect, Tanzanyte would be really great.
Props:
* Can fit into 2 roles, either as a ressurection
engine or he can serves as
fattie, breaking shields.
* Outside of all red limited spells. Ladies and
Gentlemens, Tanzanyte is
Apocalyspe proof.
Cons:
* I can only see him working in control decks... He
is quite slow. Thou' he
would be a great add to Phal, RUB:s and BUG:s
* No race/multi civ support at the moment.
Constructed: 3.5/5
Limited: ?

Tanzanyte,
the Awakener is a multi-civ card that sports the
colors of two of the most popluar civilizations. Its
power is the highest out of all of the multi-civ
creatures to date but it is peculiar in that it
doesn’t have any effects that relate to the Water
Civilization. Let’s look at the stats:
Tanzanyte, the Awakener
Cost: 7
Race: Spirit Quartz
Civilization: Water/Darkness
Type: Creature
Rules Text:
· This creature is put into your Mana Zone tapped.
· Double breaker
· Instead of having this creature attack you may tap
it to use its tap ability:
o Choose a creature in your graveyard. Return all
creatures that have that name from your graveyard to
your hand.
Power: 9000
For starters, Tanzanyte costs 7 mana, which is a
highly coveted spot in most players’ decks. In other
words, for 7 mana it needs to do something
spectacular. Fortunately when we look at its mana to
power ratio, it costs 7 mana for a 9000 power
creature. That’s not bad. We can go old school and
say that this card resembles a Deathliger because of
its power and double breaker capability. This
creature can at least stand up to a lot of the
evolution creatures (Crystal Lancer, Fighter Dual
Fang, etc) but it does come out a little late.
Again, we have a creature that’s very similar to
Deathliger but it also includes an effect when you
tap it. When you tap Tanzanyte instead of attacking,
you get to choose a creature in your graveyard and
put all copies of that creature from the graveyard
into your hand. When considering that this effect
will most likely be used on turn 8, it’s not very
game breaking, is it? In my opinion I would
personally prefer to attack with it instead and then
go for the win. Again, this creature is huge and has
double breaker, so why not just finish the game with
it. Its tap ability is just there to be cute and
will most likely score you one or two Bloody Squitos
by the time you get to use it. Bah!
However, as a refined duelist, I refuse to discredit
a card so easily. Now you haven’t lived until you’ve
used a low creature control deck (I have 2
tournament proven builds – D/W/F and D/W). Tanzanyte
would be brilliant in low creature control decks
because by the time your opponent is debilitated you
will be down to one or two shields. Therefore
Tanzanyte would return all of your annoying Bloody
Squitos at the most opportune time. You’ll also be
able to return all Kelp Candles to help you
efficiently plot your opponent’s demise. From what
I’ve seen, people aren’t too familiar with low
creature control or may not understand its play
style so I’ll just keep it brief. I just wanted to
prove that Tanzanyte does have some potential in the
right decks.
The Good: It’s a Deathliger with an effect!
The Bad: The popular D/W and D/W/(whatever) control
formats do not need this. There are better ways to
spend 7 mana.
The Ugly: What a ripoff! Where’s the water civ
effect (water isn’t to renowned for double breakers
so I don’t want to hear it :P)? And why would I want
to tap this guy if I can break some shields and win
with him anyway?
Constructed Rating: 2.0 – There are better creatures
for 7 mana and less but it might prove worthy in a
low creature control deck.
Limited Rating: 3/5 – Beefy creatures are always
good in limited as log as you can get them out.
I hope you enjoyed the review

Tanzanyte the
awakener
Tanzanyte is one of the new creature type call
Spirit Quartz. it is another cross but this time of
Water and Darkness. It's a 7 for 9000 double breaker
that you can tap to return all creatures of one name
from your grave yard to your hand. Personally I
think this card is pretty good. The only problem is
that it costs two differnt civilizations to play.

This guy is cool looking
Tanzanyte is a Spirit Quartz, which has no support,
and a rainbow card from Shockwaves Of The Shattered
Rainbow. Tanzanyte is also a 9000 double breaker
with a tap ability that allows you to choose a
creature and return all creatures with the same name
from your graveyard to your hand. I could see this
in a dark water deck ( I should know, its in my dark
water deck ) or any other deck that involves monster
returns from the grave. Now onto the good and bad
portions of this card. Sorry for the short review,
got some exams coming up on Monday and it goes on
until Thursday.
Good: Good Mana to power ratio 7 for a 9000 double
breaker
Returns monsters to your hand
Bad: No Support
Art: 4/5
Overall Rating: 4/5
See ya guys, or girls, next time.

Tanzanyte the
Awakener
Hello I'm back again for my second day. Of course by
the time this is put up on Pojo I'll be on my way to
North Carolina. Anyways on with my second review.
Tanzanyte the Awakener
Mana Cost - 7 (1 water 1 darkness)
Attack - 9000
Type - Spirit Quartz
Mana Number - 1 (1 Water 1 Darkness)
Set - Shockwaves of the Shattered Rainbow
Effect - (This creature is put into your mana zone
tapped.)
Double breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Instead of having this creature attack, you may tap
it to use its ability.
Choose a creature in your graveyard. Return all
creatures that have that name from your graveyard to
your hand.
Yet another monster with 2 attributes (can't
remember official terms). This one is
water/darkness. I never really liked Darkness
creatures but who cares? I must review. This monster
is pretty much used to reduce your graveyard. You
get back creatures with the same name as one you
name to your hand for another go round with it. This
is especially good if you use blockers such as
Bloody Squito and Dark Clown.
4/5 Overall
5/5 Art (It's a big flipping Ice Dragon thingy.
What's not to love?)

Heya all,
~Zephyr~ here again, with another COTD! This time we
look at a rather new addition to the Race scene in
the form of the Spirit Quartz and its biggest
hitter, Tanzanyte, the Awakener!
Name: Tanzanyte, the Awakener
Cost: 7
Race: Spirit Quartz
Civilization: Water/Darkness
Type: Creature
Rules Text:
(This creature is put into your mana zone tapped.)
Double breaker (This creature breaks 2 shields.)
Instead of having this creature attack, you may tap
it to use its Tap ability.
Tap Choose a creature in your graveyard. Return all
creatures that have that name from your graveyard to
your hand.
Power: 9,000
Mana Number: 1
Artist: Yarunoca
Rarity: V
Collector Number: 8
Let's break it down......
Cost & Power: 7 mana for 9000 power is always a good
starting sign for a creature as you are getting more
power over the mana needed to summon it, and 9000
power is nothing to laugh at. In most cases it can
take out the majority of big hitters in deck and
avoids all Fire Removal Spells so it can't be all
that bad! 7 mana for tap effect creature though is a
bit rough and might limit this creature's usefulness
in the long run!
Race: Spirit Quartz is an entirely new Race that has
been introduced in Set 10, Shockwaves of the
Shattered Rainbow, and it has only 5 creatures to
its name, with Tanzanyte, the Awakener being the
most expensive to play, but being the most powerful
creature by far. The most played creature from the
race as of the moment is definitely Soderlight, the
Cold Blade for its unblockable ability and its
silent skill effect but that doesn't mean people
have forgotten to use Tanzanyte! Its effect is
rather useful......
Effect: Tanzanyte's effect is rather useful,
especially when playing a deck full of cheap
creatures, but more importantly, playing with
several copies of creatures in your deck! Its tap
ability allows you to choose a creature in your
graveyard and return it to your hand. Far enough,
its similar to Dark Reversal, but Tanzanyte's effect
also allows you to return all copies of the same
creature back to your hand from the graveyard as
well! So you can ultimately return up to 4 creatures
to your hand in just one tap move! Rather impressive
if pulled off, but the majority of the time, you
will be lucky to get 2 or 3 alone from the
graveyard, it all depends on how the duel is going
and whether your copies of the card that u want to
return to your hand have come out and done their
job! If you don't want to use Tanzanyte's effect,
you can always utilise his 9000 power and double
breaker ability, which against most decks will wipe
the floor with just about everything!
Availability: Same as Techno Totem, as a Very Rare,
its not that easy to get your hands but due to this
creature's effect, it will most probably be found in
folders rather than decks so 50/50 really!
Overall, I think its certainly an interesting card
to use but I think people would rather use something
more devastating in their 7 mana slot, like
Apocalypse Vice, Lost Soul or Bolmeteus Steel
Dragon. It can fit well into a Recursion deck quite
nicely, and if comboed with creatures that are cheap
& nasty, like Propeller Mutant or worse, Melnia, the
Aqua Shadow, it can work quite well. But since it
needs a turn to actually get going, it might not be
so easy to use!
Limited Format: 3/5 - Most people will use it only
for its double-breaker ability in this format as
most likely your opponent won't be able to remove it
unless with a stronger creature. As people won't get
many copies of the same card in this format as well,
no real point in using his tap ability!
Constructed: 3/5 - Again, it all depends on the
build of the deck on utilising Tanzanyte's effect to
the max, but I can't see this guy being used much
over the more popular Corpse Charger & Zombie
Carnival!
~Zephyr~'s Score: 3/5
If anyone wants to discuss anything that I have
mentioned in this COTD, feel free to email me @ -
mexflash@hotmail.com. Generally always up for a
friendly chat & discussion. Also available on Msn &
for duels on DMC v2.0!
Until the next COTD!
