Rollicking Totem seemed pretty outstanding
when first seeing it from a booster. Its
potential was too much to pass up and I just
couldn’t resist pondering how much
excitement and dominance it could bring to a
duel. However dragons already have tons of
support so let’s see how well this creature
stacks up.
Rollicking Totem
Cost:
5
Race:
Mystery Totem
Civilization:
Nature
Type:
Creature
Rules Text:
·
Silent
skill
(At the start of each of your turns, if this
creature is tapped, you may keep it tapped
and use its
ability.)
Put
a creature that has Dragon in its race from
your mana zone into the battle zone.
Power:
4000
Rollicking Totem definitely starts out
solid. For 5 mana you get a 4000 power
creature with a decent ability. The reason
why the 4000 power is so good is because
Silent Skill creatures are prone to attacks
while they are tapped. With this much power
it will be able to hold its own and can also
be useful for counter attacking.
As far as the effect we’re in for a treat.
As long as you leave Rollicking Totem tapped
at the beginning of each of your turns
you’ll be able to summon a dragon from your
mana zone for FREE! For those of you who
enjoy swarming with dragons this card is for
you. The only issue with this card is the
fact that the mana cost is so high. We only
need 4 mana to start summoning dragons with
the help of Soulswap. Fortunately we can
also use Soulswap to have this creature out
by turn 3.
In my opinion this card works really well
with Earth Dragons. Of course you can also
use Fire Dragons but Fire Dragons already
have a well-established support system. In
addition, by omitting Fire and going with a
different civilization, like Water, you’ll
be able to protect this creature with
blockers and keep cards in your hand. This
can be especially advantageous because of
the combination of drawing and mana rushing.
Just keep in mind that this creature is all
about free swarming. If the only thing you
want to use it for is to rush dragons then
you’re better off skipping the middle man
and Soulswapping your own into the battle
zone. For the most part you’ll typically
find that your opponent has already dealt
with this creature before you can use its
abilities.
The Good:
Free dragons! Yay!
The Bad:
There is better dragon support out there.
The Ugly:
Don’t build a deck solely around this guy
because chances are it’ll die before the
effect goes off. Then you’re stuck with too
many high mana cards.
Constructed Rating:
3.5/5 – This creature is very solid but a
lot riskier than the other dragon support
cards. The effect is very appealing.
Limited Rating:
3/5 – You’ll mainly be attacking with this
creature since dragons aren’t the easiest
things to get in limted.
