Article 2: 3rd April 2004 'Death of the
Unkillables'
I'm back and better with my Look
into the Future, part 2 of amazing genius. This time I'll bring in card pictures
for you to look at the cards you'll be reading about.
Smart.
Today we look at some 'killers of
the unkillibles', some dark civ slayers from Set 3 (Rampage of Super Warriors -
coming very soon!) and 1 from Set 5 - RETURN OF THE SURVIVOR. These are the two
new slayers who's power is variable and a weaker form of the 5 and 4 mana
slayers. And a new slayer who give's his ability to others
Let's
begin!
We now begin by looking at a card called Fang Man. A
4 mana slayer with only a little bit of power. Ick.
--------
FANG
MAN
Creature / Hedorian / Dark / 4 / 1000+ / 1
- Slayer (This Creature and
the Creature it Battles are put into
their owners' Graveyards, even if it
wins.)
- This Creature's Power is increased by 1000 for each of your
other
Dark Creatures in the Battle Zone.

(Rare)
------------
We have a 4 mana card. We get this
card out in mid game where a 1000 power creature is going to fall to almost
anything sent at you. We get basically harder to use but more defined Rothus, or
if we were comparing this to Yu-Gi-Oh! Exiled Force. However it does gain 1000
power (the card does not specifically say when attacking) for every other Dark
Creature in the battle zone, which is a very small
boost.
If this cards effect included all
creatures on your side of the battle zone, or every dark creature on the field
it may have actually been usable. But it dosen't. You probably won't get this
card past 3000, if it did however manage to break 4000 it would be a very
powerful card. But having 3 safe dark cards on your side of the field whilst
keeping your shields intact is very hard to pull
off.
The final verdict is that this card
dosen't deserver a place in your deck. He's weak and can't be trusted to help in
a tight situation. Slayer's don't tend to see much play a already, so don't
expect this one to see much either.
Rating: 3/10 - You better hope for
some luck just running one of these cards.
---------------------------
SHADOW OF SIGHS VELVET
FLOW
Creature / Ghost / Dark / 3 / 1000 / 1
- Slayer (This Creature and
the Creature it Battles are put into
their owners' Graveyards, even if it
wins.)
45/55 (Common)
--------------
Can anyone say this card is exactly
the same as the one I just reviewed, just a mana cheaper without the useless
power boost. It's a ghost, not a great type with amazing evolutions yet and his
power is terribly bad. We see he comes in the late-early game, which means he'll
emerge right before the 4 mana fire attacker cards come to see the
light.
Although being a 1 for 1 suicide
creature a mana-less or a power-plus would have increased this cards playability
allot. Although good against fire beatdown, and high powered blockers this card
dosen't seem to good at all. Nature and water run all over this card, not caring
at all. And rushes take you down to 2 shields before this card is even
played.
In a mana disruption/destruction
deck if you can get this card out, destroy some mana and bring out another one
next turn you actually get a good play of slayers. But to effectivly pull this
off will take you 4 turns, so not to good at
all.
Rating: 3.5/10 - Fang Man can take
down more cards than this, but this is more
versatile.
---------------
GIGARINGU Alpha
Creature /
Chimera [Survivor] / Dark / 5 / 2000 / 1
- (Survivor) Slayer (This Creature
and the Creature it Battles
are put in their owners' Graveyards, even if it
wins.)
- Survivor (While this Creature is in the Battle Zone, your
other
Survivors have the above (Survivor) ability.)
44/55
(Common)
--------------
You may not have heard of Survivor
cards yet, these cards survive of each other by donating their effects to
others, In the case of Gigaringu Alpha we get a card that inherits the [Slayer]
ability to all cards which have the [Survivor] ability. Do you get it? This card
is 5 mana for 2000 attack, but yes we do already have stronger Slayers than
this.
In a survivor deck we can pull out
multiple cards onto the field. This card gives slayer to all of them.
Then we have another card (DARK
TIARA Gamma) which when survivors attack your opponent has to discard a card
from their hand. And when we summon more survivors (GRAVEYARD INSECT GRAVE WORM)
we can take our destroyed ones back from the grave! All in a dark survivor
deck.
Unfortunatly there ARE only 3 dark
survivors, and around 3 from each other civilisation as well. This means our
survivor arsenal will probably have to be 2 or 3 civ. For purposes I suggest
water & dark as water has the most current survivor
cards.
Rating: 5.5/10 - We need more dark
survivors or a multi-civ deck to play a card like this
well.
Time for the pictures of the cards.
From the top left we have Fang Man, in top center we've got Velvet Flow, and on
the top right we've got Gigaringu Alpha. Underneath those two we've got Dark
Tiara and Grave Worm as well. Here they are:
