Epic Dragons of Hyperchaos Sealed Review – Nature Ratings

October 24, 2005

By Christina “cecillbill” Page

Nature Civilization

Nature has a great spread of creature offerings, though it’s mostly going to help you pad your 2 and 4 mana selections. There are some tricky effects to place here, but there are solid picks from this civilization.

Kachua, Keeper of the Icegate

7 mana for 3000 power bites. It has a nice tap effect. But, to make it worthwhile you’d need to grab a double breaker Dragon from your deck and hopefully win the game or come very close to it. Shuffle effect might bring something good to the top of your deck. Just make your pulls count if you deck it. Weigh your other options, as it’s expensive for this format and needs double breaker Dragons to be solid. It would be a skip for me if it weren’t for the double breaker Dragons and Chargers of this set.

Rating: Medium

Super Terradragon Bailas Gale

Since there aren’t any shield triggers in this set except for Dracobarrier, you really won’t be using it to place trigger spells into your hands. It’s basically a huge threat. Again, as it’s an evo creature you’ll only be able to get away with decking this guy if you pack a solid amount of evobait. If you don’t get enough baits, skip it.

Rating: Medium, because it’s an evo

Bakkra Horn, the Silent

I probably could have rated Scream Slicer at Medium. This guy offers some nice card synergy if you pull Dragons or Dragonoids. Each time you summon one you get to slap down some mana with its effect. Can be nice to help you summon up a sizable field if you’re able to squeeze in some cheap threats. It’s nice for the format because it’s 4 mana.

Rating: High

Carbonite Scarab

Another great creature for the format. When it’s Turbo Rush effect kicks in it gets to break a shield even when blocked.

Rating: High

Coliseum Shell

This is a decent creature for Sealed because it’s 4 mana for 3000 power. If it becomes blocked then you get some extra mana to help you advance plays and not have to sac your draws.

Rating: High

Dracodance Totem

It’s 2 mana so it’s an auto-pick for me. Has a great effect that lets you exchange this creature for a mana’d dragon when it would be destroyed. You get a card you need and don’t lose mana in the process. It’s excellent either way.

Rating: High

Muscle Charger

Muscle could help you get rid of tapped threats or overrun blockers. Decent, but shouldn’t take space away from a good creature.

Rating: Medium

Quixotic Hero Swine Snout

Auto-pick because it’s two mana, but whenever a creature is summoned it gets +3000 power. Its effect is sweet as it can save the creature from counterattacks (your opponent will want to summon a creature) and help you make it bigger on rebound attacks or overrun defense. Excellent creature for the format.

Rating: High

Root Charger

This is the kind of spell you cast when you’re doing retaliatory attacks and are guaranteed to lose your creatures or you know your opponent will block and kill your creature. Not a first pick for me, but solid since it also gives you mana. Wouldn’t take away a spot from solid creatures.

Rating: Medium

Senia, Orchard Avenger

This creature has a great Turbo Rush effect. So long as something else breaks a shield, then you get an 8000 double breaker. Sweet.

Rating: High

Terradragon Gamiratar

I don’t like this creature even though it’s a 4 mana double breaker. I’d only summon it if my opponent was topdecking, and that’s not an easy thing to initiate in Sealed. You summon this guy and your opponent gets to bring out Sahsa or some other expensive fattie or a blocker for free. It’s a huge gamble. Your opponent may not have the juiciest guy to drop, but he gets a free summon. I’m not for taking that chance. I’d only deck one copy if I played with it—and that’s a big “if.” Might be a more tempting pick if you have some discarding from Darkness.

Rating: Low

Terradragon Regarion

5 mana for a 4000 power double breaker that becomes bigger when attacking is great.

Rating: High

Nature Summary

# High: 7
# Medium: 4
# Low: 1
# Unplayable: 0

There are many great creature picks from Nature, and some solid offensive Turbo Rush effects.
