Drawing into Deck Advantage
Oct 19, 2005

Well, I would like to first off say that I am sorry for my recent lack of Articles.  Today, I decided to review the first six cards that allow you to gain advantage through drawing.

___________________________________________________

I will start off with the two Light cards that allow you to draw.

Name: Magris, Vizier of Magnetism
Cost: 4
Race: Initiate
Civilization: Light
Type: Creature
Rules Text:
When you put this creature into the battle zone, you may draw a card.

Power: 3000

Magris has an effect that duplicates another card that is well seen in tournament play.  Though he does have a decent attack, 4 mana is a little pushy.  I would definitely recommend running around 2-4 in a light deck or a deck that has 2 or 3 civilizations.  Though it does depend because if you are running water, it may be a better choice to use some of its drawing cards.  Magris is good for Hurricane decks, Diamond Cutters, and a few others, too.

Name: Mist Rias, Sonic Guardian
Cost: 5
Race: Guardian
Civilization: Light
Type: Creature
Rules Text:
Whenever another creature is put into the battle zone, you may draw a card.
Power: 2000

Next is one of my personal favorites, if the most favorite.  Mist Rias possesses an unique effect, unlike any other than perhaps Mongrel Man, but I will get to him later.  Mist Rias' effect can net you at least a 1-1 advantage.  I use him in my Nature/Light deck for awesome drawing and field advantage.  Mist Rias has much potential, but can you master him??

Next up is the Darkness Civilization

Name: Darkpact
Cost: 2
Civilization: Darkness
Type: Spell
Rules Text:
Put any number of cards from your mana zone into your graveyard. Then draw that many cards.

Believe it or not, this card can be used very effectively.  If you run a Dark/Nature deck that has a lot of mana acceleration, try out 1-3 of these.  If they don't work for you, don't worry.  The third card is great.  But for this card, it can really help you out.  Cards like Fighter Dual Fang, Bronze-Arm Tribe, and a few others can really help you get a lot of mana.  Then with the extra mana, you can use it for Darkpact, allowing you to gain tremendous card advantage.

Name: Intense Evil
Cost: 3
Civilization: Darkness
Type: Spell
Rules Text:
Shield Trigger Shield trigger (When this spell is put into your hand from your shield zone, you may cast it immediately for no cost.)
Destroy any number of your creatures. Then draw that many cards.

This card is overlooked a lot.  Doesn't really surprise me either since it doesn't have a great effect.  But, I don't really like it myself.  This card would prolly be best used in a deck that gets plenty of cheap monsters out, maybe even a rush deck.  Though that depends.  Anyways, use this card wisely.  I sure wouldn't want to see you get a loss from your own card, lol.

Name: Mongrel Man
Cost: 5
Race: Hedrian
Civilization: Darkness
Type: Creature
Rules Text:
Whenever another creature is destroyed, you may draw a card.
Power: 2000

O_o.. I can definitely tell you one way to lose a duel for the fact that I couldn't do anything.  My friend used to run a deck with "slayers", "Mongrel Man", and cards with revival like "Amber Piercer" and "Dark Reversal".   Basically this card is great with cards that destroy your opponents creatures.  Then, if you have problems with keeping "Mongrel Man" on the field, run revival cards.  They can also net you the cards that you already used to destroy their creatures.

___________________________________________________

The last card today comes in the Fire Civilization.  It is the only card that I know of from the Fire Civilization that allows you to draw cards...

Name: Cyclone Panic
Cost: 3
Civilization: Fire
Type: Spell
Rules Text:
Shield Trigger Shield trigger (When this spell is put into your hand from your shield zone, you may cast it immediately for no cost.)
Each player counts the cards in his hand, shuffles the cards into his deck, then draws that many cards.

Really, if anyone plays Yu-Gi-Oh, you would instantly recognize this card with "Reload".  Reload in Yu-Gi-Oh however, has more uses than this, especially since you can activate it on your opponent's turn.  I would advise to use this card for a deck that runs expensive cards that way you would be able to clear your hand with all your expensive cards and possibly get a new hand that is better.

Well that is all for today, sorry if you didn't enjoy it.

Well until next time,
