Well guys, everyone's favorite Horus is
back. It took me awhile to find the keys to the hut. Now that I've found
them, I'd like to take a look into a card that one of my friends had
previously used. Since then, I've seen it used in Los Angeles at the
Championships. Seeing how I was on the receiving end of the loss of the
match, I saw it first hand. So without further ado, I give you, Marinomancer.*
Name: Marinomancer
Cost: 5
Race: Cyber Lord
Civilization: Water
Type: Creature
Rules Text:
When you put this creature into the battle zone, you may reveal the top 3
cards of your deck. Put all light cards and all darkness cards from the
revealed cards into your hand, and put the rest into your graveyard.
Flavor Text:
I don't know who will win the war. But I know I'm on their side.
Power: 2000
Mana Number: 1
Artist: Katsuya
Rarity: R
Collector Number: 25
Set: Shadowclash of Blinding Night
At first look, you can be fooled. However with the help of friends, I was
able to see its true potential. Today I'm going to build that "old school"
Water/Darkness deck.
However, it will be using some "new school" cards as well. Here are my
picks.
Darkness
1. "Bring on the worms!"
My first selections for the Darkness would be the classical Parasite Worms.
I think I'll take the Gregorian, the Horrid, and the Chaos. That will fill
up the first ten spots of this deck. Chaos Worm will take care of some of
the creature destruction and Horrid Worm will get rid of your opponent's
hand. Gregorian Worm will be helpful because of its "Shield Trigger"
capability. I think that a few recursion spells wouldn't hurt us either.
2. "Eni, Mini, Miny, Mo."
Next off will be the massive discarding that most of us know Darkness for.
Let's go with Lost Soul, Locomotiver, and Ghost Touch.**
Lost Soul will be for late game, and Locomotiver and Ghost Touch for the
early-mid game.
3. "Takin' candy from a baby."***
These last few are a tad easier since they are consider "staples".****
Terror Pit, Hopeless Vortex, and Bloody Squito should finish up the Darkness
section today.
Water
1. "Bring on some technology."
Cyber Lords will be a big part of this deck. Marinomancer, Corile, and
Emeral are my favorite choices for this deck. With that "large" amount of
Cyber Lords, I would deem it necessary for Illusionary Merfolk in here as
well. Emeral will be very fun to run seeing the amount of Shield Triggers.
2. "Do we still have to have more?"
My answer. Yes. I feel that this deck will still need some draw power and
some searchability in it. Energy Streams and Crystal Memories are some of
the better choices nowadays.
Now here's my lineup, though yours may differ from it completely based upon
meta calls. Note: I don't expect it to do "great", because it is simply a
fun deck. But please let me know if you do run it and tell me how it does.
It would be greatly appreciated. Also, I do know that I have a larger amount
of Darkness than Water and that is perfectly normal since we will want to
maximize our chances of drawing the Darkness cards.
3xHorrid Worm
3xGregorian Worm
2xChaos Worm
4xTerror Pit
2xHopeless Vortex
3xLocomotiver
3xGhost Touch
2xLost Soul
4xBloody Squito
2xDark Reversal
3xMarinomancer
4xCorile
3xEmeral
3xIlusionary Merfolk
3xEnergy Stream
2xCrystal Memory
I may be missing a few "favorable" Water cards in here such as Thrash
Crawler and Aqua Hulcus. However, please keep in mind that this is strictly
a deck for fun. I would like to see how it does in a competitive
environment, though. So please send everything you may need answers to or if
you want to chat to danieljs@bellsouth.net .
*Funny thing. Someone in my Math class has a last name that is close to
Marinomancer.
**Yeah I know that some of you like Cranium Clamp, but I like the cheap cost
and the shield trigger ability. Like I said, personal preference based on
meta.
***I play Fusion Frenzy more than I should. Go Zak.
****All just opinion in my eyes though.
Until next time, whenever that may be,
Happy Holiday and Happy New Year( '06 will be the year of HorusMaster )
