Top
Ten Fire and Water - Smcman
I have spent a lot of time carefully
thinking and putting together this list. These rankings are my opinion, but I do
run a red/blue deck and I have some experience with the types. So without
further adu, here is my top ten list, with five cards each of Water and Fire
civilizations.
WATER / BLUE
5. Aqua Sniper
One of the best
Super rares in the game. First, the two downsides: the high cost of 8 mana and
low power. The cost does slow it down a bit, but any higher and Aqua Sniper
would be fairly broken. As for the power, it won't matter that much because your
field should be clear. The ability is what makes this card incredible. Bouncing
two creatures is a godly effect that could really put a hurting on your
opponent, making them take a whole turn re-casting those fatties, who now have
summoning sickness.
4. Candy Drop
Most people fail
to see the point of this card. He isn't meant to stay on the field a long time
or pose a major threat. Candy Drop's sole use it to break a shield and then die.
If he lives longer, great. But for a cheap cost of three, getting an almost
guaranteed broken shield is pretty darn nice.
2. Crystal Memory AND Brain Serum
(Tie)
I just couldn't decide over the two most argued about spells. Both
cost a mid-range 4 mana and have the handy shield trigger ability. One lets you
search out any single card, while the other draws two cards off the top. Great
abilities and great cards, both getting the same great score from me.
1. Spiral Gate
This is one of my
favorite cards, and for a good reason. First, it has a very low cost of two.
This means you can play it early on, or play it in the later game and still have
mana left to play another card. The shield trigger is certainly good, but an
already low cost means it wouldn't matter that much. Finally, the actual effect:
bouncing any monster on the field is simply incredible. This really hurts those
red decks with Ucarn and Triceps, and can make your opponent have to replay a
monster with Summoning Sickness all over
again.
Honorable Mention: Aqua Hulcus and
Teleportation
FIRE /
RED
5. Scarlet
Skyterror
This card is somewhat similar to
Aqua Sniper. The downsides include a high casting cost of 8 mana, and the very
lower power of only 3000. Its effect would have to be REALLY good to make
up for it, and Scarlet doesn't deliver. A situational effect of destroying
blockers just isn't good enough, in my opinion, to merit a whole lot of play.
However, if Light blockers are running rampant in your meta, give him a try and
you might be surprised.
4. Explosive Fighter
Ucarn
A good card at best, and defiantly
not great. The huge downside of losing two mana could really hurt, especially if
he just gets bounced back as I mentioned before. He does have an insane power
though, that makes him nearly unkillable without using a Death Smoke or Terror
Pit. The double breaker tacked on doesn't is nice, and almost makes Ucarn
totally playable.
3. Deadly Fighter Braid
Claw
A card that amazes me time and time
again. This baby can hit the table on turn one, and after that he just never
stops. One mana for a 1000 attack creature is pretty darn nice. The only
"downside" is that he has to attack, but I think this can be good because it
forces you to stay aggresive and get in that
mindset.
2. Bolshack
Dragon
"Wow! A card that can actually find
good in Ucarns effect has to be good, right?!" Well, I would say yes. For a
semi-high cost of six mana, this bad boy can jump out and wreck some havoc. His
power can reach a number limited only by the number of fire cards in your deck.
He obviously works BEST in mono-red, but is not unplayable in a two-civilization
deck. Be careful though, because the boost only aplies when
attacking.
1. Magma
Gazer
This card can basically be
used for two different purposes: Either powering up a monster to to attack
and destroy another one, or giving double breaker so you can take an extra
shield. This card is basically what fire is all about. Big power and taking out
shields. I'm not totally sure if it deserves number one, but it was a tough
choice.
Honorable Mention: Crimson Hammer
and Tornado Flame
