Lee Sandow attended a draft tournament, which was SUPPOSED to be the pre-release for Shadowclash, but due to unhappy chance, out Shadowclash had not arrived.  Out promos had arrived, just not the FRICKING SHADOWCLASH!!!  The draft must go on, however, so we all decided to draft from base set and rampage (store was out of evo).

TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE:

Sealed Pack draft format, each player receives 2 Base Set packs and 3 Rampage of the Super Warriors packs.  Each deck must be at least 30 cards, and the promo we received for entering MAY be used.  Each round is best two out of three, swiss scoring system.

PACKS:

We drafted two packs of Base and three packs of Rampage.  Here’s what I pulled:

That was what I pulled.  My Rampage packs were VERY rude to me with the rares they gave me.  Not one rare card (even my two holos) was ANY use.  Fortunately, the commons, especially the Angler Clusters, were very nice to me.  My two Base Set packs were nice all around.  I decided I needed to use all the civilizations, and to use nothing that cost more than six mana.  I had half an hour to assemble my deck, and after much deliberation amongst myself, this is the final product:

DECK STRATEGY:

Use my blockers until I pull one of my big hitters (Tower Shell, Onslaughter, or Lah).  My other little creatures would simply try to rush, due to the cheap cost of most of my cards.  I had NO good shield triggers (other than Gregorian Worm), so I wasn’t going to be able to rely on them.  A couple of my cards killed my shields, so I would need to be careful when using them.

FIRST ROUND:  LEE vs. Tyler

I have no good memory of what his deck was, except that he was using every civilization except light.  He said he’d pulled some decent cards.

DUEL ONE:  I got rushed, and I shield triggered out his Gregorian Worm.  This was just an all around ugly game... 0-1

DUEL TWO:  Now that I knew what I was up against, and how my own deck was working, I was able to do better.  I summoned Lah and Szubs Kin.  My ultimate shield and sword that won me the duel.  1-1

DUEL THREE:  Lah and Szubs Kin came to my rescue again, and once again I pounded Tyler into oblivion… 2-1

I was now confident in my deck, and Lah was my new favorite card.  Round two would begin shortly.

SECOND ROUND:  LEE vs. Little Kid

Sorry little kid, but I forgot your name.  This, ladies and gentlemen, is why you write these things down.  Well, I remember the result clear as day, so let me recount it to you.

DUEL ONE:  OWNAGE.  The guy had no big creatures, and he only summoned small weak things.  As usual, Szubs Kin and Lah appeared on the field, this time joined by Tower Shell.  3-1

DUEL TWO:  This kid either got a bad pull, or has no talent for building decks.  Actually, we already knew the latter to be a fact, and the former might be true as well.  The usual crowd (Lah and Szubs Kin) hit the field.  It’s amazing what being 35 cards large will do for you.  4-1

THIRD ROUND:  LEE vs. Justin

Justin has mad skills, and he opened some sweet goodness in his packs.  I’ll admit, I was scared stiff to have to face him.   I had no choice however, so I boldly leapt into the duel.

DUEL ONE:  Justin actually managed to summon his Seig Balicula (despite the fact he had no other light monsters on the field).  My blockers kept him off my shields however, though his Frei, Vizier of Air gave me problems.  Finally, my Searing Wave cleared the way for my victory.  My whole “usual crowd” showed up for the party again.  5-1

DUEL  TWO:   This time was just about the same.  Different creatures breaking the shields on both sides, but the usual crowd and a well-timed searing wave rid the field of all my problems.  6-1

Time for the finals baby!  Only one other person and myself remained undefeated, so it was a winner-take-all for first place.

FOURTH ROUND:  LEE vs. Flametropus

Flametropus didn’t want me to use his real name in this report, so I named him after the creature that he used the most.

ROUND ONE:  This match was literally a staring contest between Szubs Kin and his Flametropus.  In the end, he waited too long, and I dropped Searing Wave and attacked for the win.  7-1

ROUND TWO:  This time, it was the same story.  Tower Shell and Lah both showed up in all their glory, but Szubs Kin decided to hide in my shields.  I just broke shields when I could, blocked when I couldn’t, and ended up winning.  8-1

Hail the conquering hero!

THE AFTERMATH:

I won!!! Not bad considering how I’d been doing for the last two weeks.  I got three packs (2 of the stores three remaining Evo), and one rampage.  I pulled Ethel and Gigamantis.  I had to leave, so I literally ran out of the store.  We’re gonna have another draft next week, and we’ll be using Shadowclash cards!

Now, to slops and Props.

PROPS:

WINNING!

Buying eleven foils for a buck apiece.

For us having another draft next week.

To “the usual crowd” for pwning

Finally getting NYC Ucarn (thanks Eric)

SLOPS:

Shadowclash wasn’t in stock…

IN CONCLUSION:

Another fun tournament, and another day for Lee to pillage the lands with his mad dueling skills.  Wanna chat, Duel using Duel Masters Civilizations, rant or discuss this review?  E-mail me!  Till next week, where the pwnage will re-ensue, I shall bid you adieu.

I’m going to review a card at the end of my reports from now on.  Today’s COTT (Card of the Tournament) is Lah, Purification Enforcer.

Lah, Purification Enforcer

Cost:  5

Civilization:  Light

Card Type:  Creature
Creature Class:  Berserker

Flavor Text:  Those who have seen this Enforcer believe that eclipses are omens of disaster.

Power: 5500

Mana Generated: 1

Rarity:  Rare

Card Number:  10/110

Constructed:  This guy is rather unremarkable here.  He’s just a decent attacker, but he comes out too late in the game, and he wastes a space that could best be used for another 5-drop card.  He doesn’t stand out in any deck that isn’t light, and light should be using Diamond Cutter and Szubs Kin as its five-drop card anyway.  He has no evolutions, and no support cards.  Still, his attack is decent, and slightly above average for his cost.  There are better cards, but he’s not unusable.  2/5

Limited:  As I learned today, he is a BOMB in limited.  Very few cards could best him in all out attack, and I encountered NO blockers that could stand up to his attack power.  Here, he’s a beast, and if you pull him, you have very few reasons not to run him.  4.5/5
