This weekend I turned up to SGC ready with my new deck, I
didn’t see any familiar DM players faces, so I just chilled
and talked to Vs players until David rocked up. I have him a
few matches and edited my deck afterwards. The pairings went
up and look who I was paired against, it was David
Round One Vs David Saw (Mono Water with Merfolk Draw)
David is a really nice guy who hasn’t played DuelMasters for
quite a while. He came back to playing with his old-school
Mono Blue.
In Duel One, I drew an absolute god hand and apologized to
him if he lost too quickly. I started out well with Emeral
on Turn 2 placing down a Terror Pit and picked up a
Pyrofighter (What gas). He passed his turn by playing an
Emeral without the Effect, I knew something fishy was going
on. Turn 3 for me saw a Hulcus, which was copied by David’s
own version of the 3 Drop Liquid Person. I was overjoyed
when I drew a Locomotiver off the top and then used it to
remove his Merfolk from hand. I had the upper hand now, I
swung with both critters to try to make him suicide to slow
my beats. Unfortunatly, I gained total control when he
decided to mana a Terror Pit and then use Angler Cluster and
two Aqua Guards. I Searing Waved then flashed 2 Pyrofighters
and he scooped.
The next game was totally different as David was unlucky
enough to not draw any Water cards in his opening hand and
drew a Lancer off top. I took the advantage of this and
played early Pyrofighters which he just couldn’t handle, he
eventually stalled out til Turn 8 but Baza proved too much
for him that late in the game. I asked him why he was
playing Pits and Awe in mana, he told me they were what he
was drawing
Round Two Vs Michael (4 Colour Randomness)
I have never seen Michael around here much, he seemed like a
nice guy but was a bit cocky at the start because he won his
first game. I told him not to be too happy because my deck
was dangerous.
I had drawn another great hand with some Squito and Hulcus
in it, I really liked it until I noticed that he was playing
Rush, he rushed me early game even with my Squito. I
eventually pulled through with Pyrofighter field Contol. All
I can say is that I was lucky to have been able to draw
those 2 Nexus, or it was game over. I got out lucky that
time.
The next game was totally mine, I took the early lead with
an early Wave, he was left shocked having not read Searing
Wave before. I pulled out an extraordinary curve and he was
truly a great opponent an a nice 1st attempt at a
tournament.
Round Three Vs The Bye
Just sat around waiting, sipping on my Coke. Having a
chocolate. Good Times
Round Four Vs Liam (Fire/Darkness Beatdown)
Liam is a moderately skilled duelist and a really nice kid.
Unfortunatly, I couldn’t go easy on him because this was for
1st place.
He tells me I drew the worst hand ever, I most likely drew
the best hand ever.
Emeral, Terror Pit, Aqua Hulcus, Locomotiver and Corile.
Crazy enough?Lets just say I went absolutely insane
triggering 4 Pits. YAY!!
I was quite excited when he didn’t play a creature all game.
I looked at him confused and asked why he didn’t draw ANY
critters, he thinks its whenever he plays me he’s cursed.
The next game was a slight bit closer, he played early
control with Ghost Touch, Horrid Worm and Locomotiver on 2,
3 and 4. I was a bit worried but theres no problem
Pyrofighter doesn’t fix. I just fixed up the so called
problem with a hell of a lot of Crimson Hammers and some
Squito. Pyrofighter off the top spelt doom at the hands of
my opponent. I wished we coulda had some longer games but it
was all good
The Aftermath
I ended up in 1st place. My goal was to go 3-1 but I went 1
up and went undefeated all day. I finally got a JDC Emeral
for my hard work and 2 packs, the Stompatrons pack included
Bazagazeal Dragon, so it wasn’t half bad. If I remember
correctly, David Saw finished in 2nd and Liam in 3rd.
Props
JDC Emeral
Coming First again
My DCI rating is gonna go through the roof
The field was Pyrofighter free….ah
Slops
Not many people
