Duel Masters Tourney Reports

Tournament of The Five Civilizations - crystalpaladin06
November 19,2005
Galactic Quest, Buford, GA
14 and under division

10 Entrants
Hello everyone, I apologize for not writing a COTD report in a while, but I have been busy lately. I have a whole week off so maybe I can do some. Anyways, today is the TO5C (5 Civs) and I was hoping to do well today. Little did I know I would have a Lee Sandow moment (lol).

Here is the deck I decided to run
"Disruption Eruption"
[4] Aqua Hulcas
[4] Corile
[4] Illusionary Merfolk
[3] Emeral
[2] Thrash Crawler
[2] Energy Stream
[3] Searing Wave
[3] Pyrofighter Magnus
[2] Magmarex
[2] Volcano Charger
[2] Apocalypse Vise
[2] Twin Cannon Skyterror
[4] Locomotiver
[4] Terror Pit
[3] Bloody Squito
[2] Cranium Clamp
[2] Lost Soul
[2] Corpse Charger

Deck Total: 52 cards

Deck Strategy: Pin my opponent down. I found out today it works very well against
Blue/Green/Black/Splash of Yellow. Instead of using mana accel, I have the power to kill my opponents field.

Round One: Brandon vs. David Fordham
Oh great. A Fordham brother. David decided to run th same type of deck I did, but not the same cards. I figured out in this match this deck works very smoothly, using the Chargers and building up mana. David tried a Control approach, but I think he found out that wasnt working very well. I dropped Vises, Merfolks, Coriles until I went on a shield breaking rampage.

This game went about the same. Once I got to about four mana, my deck started kicking in and I dropped bombs. I killed or bounced any creature that went into the battle zone. Merfolk was kind enough to show up quite a few times, and I kept his hand low with a barrage of Locomotivers and Clamps.

Match Result: 2-0 to me, Brandon Schmidt
Record: 1-0

Well I chatted for a few minutes with Steven Cantrell and Stephan Slack. After everyone finished, we got our Round Two pairings.

Round Two: Brandon vs. Sean McCurrie
I was overall pleased with this matchup. Sean was a complete new player, who got his deck out of a bag full of commons. He had lost his previous round (big surpirse). I could tell this would be an easy match, all I had to do was keep his from attack me.
Sean apparently didnt get to summon a creature before turn five or six I believe, while I had amassed a small army. Merfolks were popping out, left and right, giving me a huge advantage. I triple stacked Locomotivers and kept his hand low. I finished his off with Twin Cannon Skyterror and Pyrofighter Magnus without any resistance. Did I lose any shields? Nope.

This game was very similar to the first one. He got a Mini Titan Gett out, which broke one shield. I sent out my Pyrofighter to kill it. Throughout the entire game, he broke two shields.

Match Result: 2-0 to me
Record: 2-0

So far this tournament had not been a challenge.

Round Three: Brandon vs. Matt Gracek
Well, me and Matt were undefeated so we would face each other. Opening hand I had three Locomotivers and two Lost Souls. I wasnt thrilled about it. Matt ended up winning in two close games. I didnt take good notes about this matches.

Match Result: 0-2 for me
Record: 2-1

Another loss would kick me out of Top Four, so I coudnt afford another.
Round Four: Brandon vs. Justin Fordham

I was unhappy about this matchup because I have had a horrible record against Justin since my first tournament. He had decided to run something similar to Stephen Fordhams, a BUGy deck (the one I said my deck has an advantage over). In all the practice games and matches, Matt Gracek's has been the only BUGy deck to have beaten my deck. I'll make it short and sweet. I owned Justin so I wouldnt get kicked off Top Four. I Coriled/Merfolk/Clamped/Hulcas until I pounded the little guy. I hit a couple Awes but that was it.

This game was so frustrating. The only reason I won was because of decking him out. Once I got him down to four cards, and I had about fifteen or so, I decided to just deck him out. He played a Hulcas, which I Waved. He had two cards left. He played a Corile, and the game was over. He drew his last card, and I won. Whew.

Match Result: 2-0
Record: 3-1

So the Top Four (by place) are by follows
1.) David Fordham
2.) Matt Gracek
3.) Stephen Fordham
4.) Brandon Schmidt

I was very happy and the thought of playing David again. Little did I know this would be a Lee Sandow moment.

Top Four match: Brandon vs. David Fordham
I have no idea what the f--- happened here. This entire match was over in about ten minutes. Instead of trying to control me like I thought, he rushed me. My deck didnt set up on time and I got no shield triggers this entire game.
I want to know what the hell happened here. I knew I had to make a comeback but apparently David wanted to win. He again rushed me, I got no blockers, no shield triggers, and this whole entire match pissed me off. It was a load of bull-s---.
Matt Gracek ended up beating Stephen Fordham by getting a lucky Holy Awe that saved his ass.

David rushed Gracek and Gracek couldnt stop it, and Gracek lost the match.
Well, at least I got a Top Four, yet again.
I ended up with six packs total, 2 Crystal Lancer promos, and I bought 3 Aqua Hulcas promos from Steven Cantrell for 27 dollars. My deck is gonna get pimped out.

Props:
Making Top Four
My deck for kicking ass
Getting four Aqua Hulcas promos
I got 3 Clamps in my packs
Justin Fordham being a good sport, even though I knocked him out of Top Four

Slops:
David Fordham for pulling a Lee Sandow on me
For getting three Aqua Rangers in packs...
My brother for making last, even though he had a rush deck
