The Tournament of the 5 Civilizations, T&T Toys, Duluth GA

Featuring Stomp-A-Trons of Invincible Wrath

T&T Toys, Duluth GA

04/30/05, 1:30 P.M.

Justin Florio ‘s Crystals, Slashes, and… Merpeople?

Hello there readers of Pojo. I am back and better than ever (not really, I’m just not stressed by school so much anymore). I apologize to you guys for leaving you hanging there for a month or two, but I have been extremely busy. But now I’m starting up again! Today, I bring you my tourney report from the tournament of the 5 Civs. This will be a long one, but it is a good one, so no matter how hard it is to go on reading, you must!

Let me start off by telling you that I got about three hours of sleep the night before this huge event because I was so excited. So when I got to the tournament site, T&T Toys, I wasn’t in the best of moods. This quickly changed when I saw some familiar faces from GQ such as Lee Sandow, Austin Ladshaw, and Matt Gracek. Later after my arrival, Tyler and Patrick Smallwood also showed up as well as Stephan Slack. Anyways, we all practice dueled for a while, filled out our deck lists (which is typed right after this paragraph), and prepared for battle. I was in the 14 and under division with Matt Gracek and all three of the Fordham bothers, who were definitely a threat in this tourney. Lucky for us though, Tyler Smallwood went to the upper division, which upset many of the upper players. ON TO THE MATCHES! (You thought I was going to blab forever didn’t you?)

Match 1

Me vs Country Boy

I failed to write this kid’s name down, so I have to call him by what he appeared to be. Well anyways, apparently this kid had never been to a tournament before.

Round 1

He was running a Fire/Light deck with horrible combinations. He got out Deadly Fighter Braid Claws early, but he ran into my shield triggers (Proclamation of Death and Spiral Gate). After that, I made quick work of him with my Horrid Worms and Coriles. I won, 3 shields to none.

Round 2

Pretty much the same as the last duel. He managed to take out 3 of my shields, but I stopped him there with a Spiral Gate/Loco/Corile Lock. He never stood a chance. I won, 3 shields to none.

After this match, I still wasn’t very confident. This guy had never played a decent match, so he wasn’t much of a challenge. I commended him afterward for what he had accomplished in the duel. Matt Gracek and all the Fordham brothers had won their first rounds. The main competition was still in this.

Match 2

Me vs David Fordham

David Fordham is an overall good player. He is second to his brother Stephen but he is superior to his brother Justin. David runs a Green/Darkness deck that works fairly well.

Round 1

This duel started off with my switching out 2 shields with 2 Emerals. I ended up with a Terror Pit and a Locomotiver in my shields and I picked up an Aqua Guard and a Crystal Paladin (which was the end of him). We batted at each other’s shields and hand with Horrid Worms until he evod into Ultracide Worm. He double broke instead of hitting my Horrid Worm. David managed to hit my Terror Pit and an Aqua Hulcus. This was the end because he was down to 2 shields. I drew Paladin, played Hulcus, evod into Paladin and smacked his last shield. Then my Horrid Worm finished him off. I won, 2 shields to none.

Round 2

Again, we batted each other’s shields. I got to his hand first, which won me the game. I had him top decking for a while. Then I threw down 2 Coriles on his Horrid Worm. He never stood a chance. I swarmed the field with little creatures like Locomotiver, Aqua Hulcus, and Corile. His shields were decimated in one fatal sweep. I won, 3 shields to none.

This guy put up a decent fight. He wasn’t expecting to win, so I didn’t feel bad about beating him (not that I ever would, considering how many times he has beaten me in drafts). Stephen Fordham and Matt Gracek still didn’t lose. I was getting worried. I would have to face one of them soon, which was a bad thing. The pairings arrived, and sure enough, I was facing Stephen Fordham.

Match 3

Me vs Stephen Fordham

This is the best Fordham brother. I can’t say anything else good about his kid though because he copies other people’s decks to win. Oh well, it is his skills that he is wasting away. He runs a completely gay Water/Darkness with half his deck as shield triggers. Anyway, on to the match.

Round 1

This match was bad from the moment it started. I tried rushing with my Emerals, Hulcuses, and Horrid Worms, but to no avail. He has a shield trigger in each shield I hit, giving him a HUGE advantage. That wasn’t what blew my top off though. I was top decking and I drew Horrid Worm. I played it. He played Corile. I was like, “He doesn’t have another one” so I played it again. He played Corile. I played it again. He played Corile. After three, I thought there was no way possible for there to be another one. I played Horrid Worm a last time. He played Corile. It was over right then. His massive amount of creatures slaughtered me. I lost, No shields to 2.

Round 2

This was much like the first match. I didn’t even get to 6 mana because he Corile locked me AGAIN. 3 in a row this round. It was absolute hell. Even my 4 shield triggers weren’t enough to stop this kid’s onslaught in the end. I lost, No shields to 4.

I was extremely upset after this devastating loss. I was hoping I could work my way back up after this. I went from the 1st table to the 5th table. It sucked, but now I was playing n00bs again.

Match 4

Me vs Mr. Moon Horn

I call this guy Mr. Moon Horn because that is the card he plays and relies on the most (that kind of tells you how great of a duelist he is. And if you couldn’t sense the sarcasm in that phrase, you need serious help). He runs mono-green.

Round 1

ABSOLUTE PWNAGE. I was mad from the last duel, so I did exactly what Stephen Fordham did to me to Moon Horn. I Coriled this guy’s Xeno Mantis twice, while holding off his Torcons with Aqua Guards. I broke some shields. He broke none. I ended the game quickly after drawing both of my Crystal Paladins and evoing both my Aqua Guards. I won, 5 shields to none.

Round 2

Pretty much the same as the first. He desperately tried to get Xeno Mantis out, but I wouldn’t let him. It’s life was ended by a Death Smoke. I devastated his deck with Future Slash. This was the first game today that I actually got to use my beloved card. Anything of importance was gone from his deck. This kid stood no chance. I won, 3 shields to none.

If I won my next match, I would go to semi-finals. If I lost, I wouldn’t. I was facing an unknown kid, but he ran mono-light, so I’m calling him Dr. Light.

Match 5 (FINAL MATCH BEFORE SEMIS)

Me vs Dr. Light

Like I said, this kid ran mono-light. It had one Holy Awe… Pathetic.

Round 1

He just sent out too many blockers for me to care. I planned for all of them to be Paladin food eventually. He stalled until turn 7 where he got Syforce out. I smoked it. The next turn, I started devastating his deck with Future Slash. I could see if the Holy Awe was in his shields, and it wasn’t. I fooled him to make him think it was, so he got cocky. I got rid of his Diamond Cutter eventually, so his strategy was shot. All his blockers left the field when Crystal Paladin came to town. I finished him in one sweep. I won, 5 shields to none.

Round 2

This was a boring round. He tried attacking me with weak creatures such as Lok and Miele. He ran into my triggers and that was that for his creatures. I swarmed him. When I attacked, I had 4 Aqua Hulcus, 2 Crystal Paladin, 4 Corile, 3 Illusionary Merfolk, and 2 Locomotivers on the field. It was a massacre. I won, 3 shields to none.

HURRAY! I was excited! I made it to the semi-finals. So did Matt Gracek, David Fordham… and Stephen Fordham. Great. I would have to deal with him again. But first…

Semi-Final Match

Me vs Matt Gracek

Matt runs a Darkness/Green deck with Crimson Hammers, Tornado Flames, and Searing Waves *splashed*. Well, I wasn’t going to let him use those Searing Waves on me…

Round 1

Matt tried rushing me with his Barkwhips. I stopped him in his tracks with 2 Proclamation of Death. This shattered his efforts. He attempted a comeback with Chaos Worm, but to no avail. I stacked up Aqua Hulcus, Locos, and Merfolk. I finally evod Paladin and hit his shields for the win. I won, 1 shield to none.

Round 2

This round was very close. I couldn’t lock him with Corile. I managed to pull off Merfolk while he had no hand. With a major hand advantage, I had many more options than Matt. He was top decking and I wasn’t going to stop that. I waited until I had enough creatures to take him out in a sweep before I attacked. Matt tried to fight back, hoping for a Searing Wave or Silphy. I used Future Slash and got rid of all of his hopes. I won, no shields to none.

Stephen beat his brother of course. So it was me and him again. I was ready for revenge.

Finals Match

Me vs Stephen Fordham (again)

Round 1

This little prick was not going to get his Corile lock on me again. I was determined to get rid of his Coriles and Merfolk even if I didn’t win the match. I accomplished my goal with my baby, Future Slash. I got rid of all 4 Coriles and 2 Merfolk. He ended up winning the match, but then again, I really wasn’t trying to take his shields. I just wanted to tear apart his copied deck. I lost, No shields to 3.

Round 2

It was time to get serious. This little kid had beaten me around enough. It was my turn. By placing a few shields with Emeral, I managed to know what shields I need him to hit in what order. Fortunately, he did. It was my turn to dominate him. He failed to get any blockers out the whole game. I kept Coriling HIS Horrid Worm this time (the tide had turned… I was now the Python and he was the Mouse struggling to breathe in my tight grasp). He couldn’t recover from his loss of field advantage. I piled up creatures just like he did and finished him in a sweep. I won, 2 shields to none.

Round 3

The only match I had all day that had three rounds. This was it. Whoever won would take the box. And the sexy plaque. I WANTED THE PLAQUE! I WOULD NOT LOSE! We slowly made each other top deck. Nobody was attacking shields until they could sweep the person. He piled up Bloody Squitos and creatures. I also packed up creatures. I managed to get rid of his Coriles via Future Slash (my baby). This turned the edge a bit. The heat was on when we both had 5 creatures on the field. I had taken one shield with my Horrid Worm. I had Aqua Guard, Aqua Huclus, Corile, Horrid Worm, and Locomotiver on this field. He had Horrid Worm, Bloody Squito x 3, and Aqua Hulcus on the field. It was my turn. I top decked………………………………………………………………………………………………………… A CRYSTAL PALADIN! This was it! My chance to win! I evod my Guard into Paladin and went on a shield breaking rampage! THIS WAS MY TOURNAMENT WHETHER STEPHEN LIKED IT OR NOT! I broke all his shields, none of which were important shield triggers (Aqua Jolter, Locomotiver, Bran Serum). I finished him with my Corile. I jumped on my chair and grabbed my prizes. My plaque and my sealed booster box. I WAS THE CHAMPION! TWO TIMES IN A ROW BABY! HURRAY!

After all the excitement, Stephen and I shook hands. I walked away the victor. In the 15+ division, Justin Couch, our Tournament director at Galactic Quest, won. So it was the day of the Justin’s. We were the rulers of this Tournament!

Well guys, that’s all for now. This has taken me a full 48 minutes to type, so now my fingers are tired. As always, this is Justin Florio. If you need anything, contact me on AIM = StewieRoxUrSox or through E-Mail = darknessflame@charter.net. Peace. I’m hella outie, yo!
