Hello, pojo readers, I'm back with yet
another tourney report! This one happened
on June 13, but sadly, there were only 6
players. That is one crappy turnout. The
deck I was playing is the same good ol' Dead
Sea. Here it is:
Okay, today was swiss, but the top 4 was
decided in points. If you won a match 2-0,
you get 10 pts. Winning 2-1 gets you 7
pts. Losing 1-2 is 3 pts., and losing 0-2
is 0 pts. Headaches aside, lets get to
where the real action is!
D.S.
VS. Andrew (Mono Light)
Game 1- Okay, Andrew is a pretty good
duelist, and stack that with a formidible
light deck and you get nothing to sneeze
at. We both got early starts and he slapped
down a bunch of blockers but I got Lancer
out. Then he busted out Alek and started
screwing with my creatures and destroyed
Lancer, but I had already got him down to no
shields. Then we both kept stalling, with
turns on end where nothing happened, but I
knew I had to draw it eventually...Yes!
Paladin! 10 Blockers! Let me just tell
you, I have never seen a hand that big.
WIN
Game 2- Now, I knew how to handle his
deck and just waited until I had 2 Lancers
out and started owning him. WIN
Whew, that was tough
; P
!
Stats after round 1: 10 pts.
D.S. VS. Wes
(Fire/Darkness)
Game 1- Wes beat me last tournament, so
I wanted to win this primarily for revenge.
The first game went pretty smoothly, but I
believe he became a minor thorn in the side
with speed attackers and rush cards.
However, I pulled off the win anyway. WIN
Game 2- I don't have good notes, but I
believe this went something like the last
duel. I remember I won without too much
touble. WIN
Stats after round 2: 20 pts.
D.S.
VS. Carl (Mono Nature)
Game 1- Well, if the last match was
easy, this one was sure to put my dueling
skills to the test. Carl started out by
gaining mana fast and playing beast folk,
and I'm pretty sure a Fighter Dual Fang was
a big problem for a while, too. However, I
was able to scrape a win. When I did so,
Carl had 15 mana. (Either that or it was the
second game, I can't remember.) WIN
Game 2- Multiple Barkwhips saw play on
Carl's side of the field, and maybe even a
Fighter Dual Fang. Even so, removal took
care of the bigger threats and I was still
able to pull of yet another beating of
Carl. WIN
Stats after round
3: 30 pts.
D.S.
VS. Eric (Water/Nature)
Game 1- Eric is
definitely one of the better players at
Comic Chest, and today he was playing what I
believe to be his best deck. I don't have
good notes for this round as I was absorbed
in the game, but I'll do my best. The first
game was tough but I managed to get a
win. WIN
Game 2- Okay,
this was defenitely the hardest game so far
today. Darn that Cryptic Totem! It broke a
Terror Pit! Well, congrats on handing me my
first defeat, Eric. LOSE
Game 3- This
was also a very tough game but removal
killed some of the bigger threats and I was
able to get a win. Great game, Eric! WIN
And now, the top 4 are announced! Eric was
in with 16 points...
Mom was in with 24 points...
Carl was in with 24 points...
and I was
in with a whopping total of 37 points!
D.S.
VS. Sandra a.k.a. Mom (Mono Fire)
Game 1- Figures I'd have to play her
somewhere in the tournament. You think I
had the easy way out? No. She is one tough
opponent. I was confident going into the
first game, but she quickly rushed me to 2
shields while she still had 5. Then the
Valdios. LOSE
Game 2- Okay, I really need to do better
this time around! I got rid of a Valdios
she played but then came the speed
attackers. I tried putting on my best
bounce but it did nothing and I lost to my
mom yet again. Holy crap. LOSE
D.S. VS. Eric (Water/Nature)
Game 1- Well, it appeared Carl had beaten
Eric to go on to the finals against my mom.
But here I was, battling it out for third
place with Eric. I wanted third place.
First game was very poor for me and he won
with unblockable cards like Candy Drop.
LOSE
Game 2- I guess
I was just taken back by losing to my mom,
because even by best removal couldn't stop
him. I was just "off". LOSE
Well, that was
surprising, but not as surprising as the
final standings.
Cool! My mom won her first tournament, so
the day wasn't a total loss! Now, props
and slops!
